NAPKIN-PAGKAGE.
Application filed March 19,
2 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, WVILLIAM- P. McCon- KINDALE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Holyoke, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin-Packages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sin le dispensing napkins provided with a speclal fold affording a hand hold for the withdrawal of a single napkin from a stack or supply and the leading object of the invention is to provide a folded napkin and a package of folded napkins having a transverse wing providing, a handle normally folded against the body of the'napkin and having a width less than one half the width of the napkin body against which it is folded and so arranged that the fingers can be easily inserted between the hand hold and the body of the napkin to facilitate its easy removal from the package, each of the napkins of the package being similarly arranged and the hand holds being disposed in registration so as to successfully present themselves along one side of the dispensing fixture or device.
With the above and other objects in view this invention relatesto certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 2 is a detail edge view on an enlarged scale of one of the napkins.
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the napkin before being folded.
Referring to the accompanying drawings 5 designates a cabinet having a ledge 6 located on the bottom thereof near the rear wall 7 of the cabinet. A second ledge 8 is located on the bottom of the cabinet and wide delivery opening 9 and is preferably disposed at a higher elevation than the ledge 6, so that the lowermost sheet will be inclined relative to the cabinet.
is arranged, each napkin consisting of a paperv sheet, which is folded along a median line 12 to provide longitudinal portionsl3 Specification of Letters Patent.

and 14 of equal Width and again along the medlan line 15 to provide the double wing 16 and the double wing 17. The napkin thusfolded is again folded upon itself at the fold lines 18 to provide the short wing 19 and the long or wide wing 20. The short or narrow wing 19 provides a longitudinal hand hold and presents a folded edge 19 to the user.' This wing or hand hold 19 is preferably of less width than one half the width of the wide wing 20. The folded napklIlS are arranged in the cabinet with the short wing gagement with the forward ledge 8 so that said wing will project rearwardly and the folded edge 19 will depend below the delivery opening 9 by its own weight and thus be separated rom the opposing side of the wing 20 to provide a finger space 21 be tween said edge 19 and the under face of the wide wing 20.
In order to deflect the free edge 19 away from the opposing face of the wing 20 atransverse corrugation or rib 22 is formed in said wing 20 and parallel ribs or corrugations 23 and 24 are formed in the side portions of the wings 19 and 20 which have the tendency to separate the free edge 19 from the wing 20 or to deflect it downwardly.
When the free edge 19 is withdrawn against the edge of the ledge 9, which is slightly rounded, and tension maintained onthe wing 19 the folded edge or joint between the wings 19 and 20 will be withdrawn from the top of the ledge 8 and the edge portion of the wing 20 will be withdrawn immediately afterward from the top of the'ledge6. The provision of the corrugations or beads or ribs in the napkin tends to strengthen the same and to hold the contacting surfaces of the wings 19 and 20 slightly spaced from each other or easily separable. I
The folded napkin permits of rapid manufacture as the folding can be done while the napkin is traveling through the folding machine in one direction.
Having described my invention, I claim: j
A package of napkins consisting of a plurality of folded sheets, each folded sheet consisting of a sheet folded upon itself along a median longitudinal line and again 19' disposed in contacting en-.
upon a median transverse line to provide of said marginal portion below the space of four plies, the composite sheet being then the-wide wing, whereby the lowermost napfolded again upon itself to provide a short kin of a package of napkins may be readily 10 Wing and a wide Wing, the widewing having Withdrawn.
a corrugation the convex side of which faces Signed by me at Springfield, Massachuthe narrow wing and contacts with the marsetts. ginal portion thereof to deflect the free edge WILLIAM P. MoCORKIN DALE.
