Description

1961 E. J. LA BASH 2,997,296
TAPE FOLDERS Filed Jan. 31, 1961 United States Pterit O 2,997,296 TAPE FOLDERS Edward J. La Bash, West Paterson, NJ. Filed Jan. 31, 1961, Ser. No. 86,098 1 Claim. (Cl. 270-86) The object of this invention is to provide an effective tape folder particularly adapted for light paper tape, known as spaclole tape, the folder being made of a unitary sheet section of metal.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the folder showing in dotted lines a section of a paper tape and the action of the folder thereon.
FIG. 2. is a perspective view of a suitable tape section adapted for use with the tape folder.
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 2. showing the said tape section folded by use of the tape folder.
FIG. 4 is a top plan view of the tape folder.
FIG. 5 is a view in elevation taken at the inlet end of the tape folder.
FIG. 6 is a side elevation of the tape folder.
FIG. 7 is an end view taken at the inlet end of the tape folder.
FIG. 8 is a bottom plan view of the tape folder.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that my tape folder is formed from a single section of sheet metal which is folded in such manner as to provide at the base of the tape folder a substantially flat downwardly tapered wall area 1, the margins of which converge toward the outlet end of the device so that the wall 1 area is triangular in form. The sides rise upwardly from said triangular wall area, as indicated more particularly at 1.1: in FIGURES 6 and 7. The metal sheet section "2,997,293 Patented Aug. 22, 1961 at one side and as indicated at 2 is folded downwardly and its end is projected into a slot 3' at the outlet end of the device. Thus the end of member 2 is formed as a finger 4.
The side of the device opposite member 2 is folded downwardly, as shown at 5, and the folded members 2 and 5 provide a channel way for the tape folder.
Referring more particularly to FIGURES 2 and 4, it will be seen that when the tape 8 is inserted in the inlet end of the device and moved. forwardly, it will be progressively acted upon by the walls 1x, and that the longitudinal center of the tape will be brought under the folding finger 4 which enters the slot 3', but which projects downwardly only a slight distance, and which produces a sharp longitudinal fold therein.
It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the shape of the folded wing elements 2 and 5, the characteristic of the invention being unitary construction with a slot at its outlet end, and a finger carried by one of the fold-in walls and which enters the slot.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
A tape folder formed from a single section of sheet metal folded in such manner as to provide an inlet end member formed as a downwardly inclined wall area, the margins of which converge toward an outlet end of the structure so that said tapered wall area is triangular in form, sides rising from said downwardly tapered wall area, the outward ends of said sides being separated by a longitudinally directed slot, both of the sides at their tops being folded downwardly as members providing a channelway for a tape, and one of said side folded down members having at the outward end of the structure a fold finger entering said slot.
