CRUTCH TIP;
APPLICATION FILED 0CT.16. 1920.

I?! ITQ' L i A" I 6 E FRANK A. UCHYTIL, OF TOLEDO, IOWA.
CRUTCH-TIP.
Specification of Letters Patent. P t nt 2 1921 Application flled'October 16, 1920. Serial No. 417,476.
To allwhom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK A. Uc rY'riL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Tama and State of Iowa, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Crutch-Tips,of whlch the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to crutches and the object is to provide an improved crutch tip or pad; The invention is illustrated n-the accompanying drawing,in which:
Figure 1 shows the butt end .of a crutch equipped with my improved pad.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the hue 22 in'Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference 7 characters A designates the butt end of a crutch on which is tightly fitted a sleeve C which is further retained in proper position by a screw B. The'lower end of the sleeve C is provided with two oppositely extended integral ears D. A'rubbe'r pad or bumper E is secured to the ears D bGy able bolts -F having nuts A concentric cavity H is provided in the pad E in which the end of the crutch may engage. A slight space is left between the two, however, sothat the ears D which are supported on the thicker part of the pad will, carry the heavierwveight. The sleeve C is so secured on the crutch A that the ears D will extend in transverse position to the direction of the person walking on the crutch, such direetion being indicated by the arrow J in Fig. 1. l I
It will thus be seen that with this device fitted on a crutch, a broad firm footing will always be had, and the pad being of rubber, or other similar material, will readily yield both forward and backward as the person using the crutch is walking. g
It is understood that various modificameans of suittions may be made in the structure of this device if such modifications come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having now therefore fully shown and described my inventionwhat I claim to. be
new and desire to protect by Letters Pat- 'ent is:
1. The combination with a crutch end, of a sleeve adapted to be secured on the crutch, said sleeve having two transversely positioned integral ears, a resilient pad and means for securing it to said ears. l 2. The combination with a crutch end, of two oppositely directed transversely positioned ears and means for securing them to i the crutch, a resilient pad adapted to support said ears and crutch end, means for securing said pad to said ears.
two'oppositely directed transversely positioned ears and means for securing them to the crutch, a resilient pad adapted to support said ears and crutch end, bolts for securing said pad to said ears.
4. The combination with a crutch end, of two oppositely directed transversely positioned ears and means for securing them to the crutch, a resilient pad adapted to support said ears and crutch end, means for securing said pad to said ears, said crutch end being normally spaced'from the pad when no pressure is exerted 011 the crutch.
5. The combination with a crutch end, of two oppositely directed transversely positioned ears and means for securing them to the crutch, aresilient pad secured to said ears and being adapted to support the same, said pad having a central cavity adapted to be engaged by the crutch end when down ward pressure is exerted on the crutch.
In testimony whereof I- aflix my signature.
FRANK A. UCHYTIL.
