Description

B. J. McDOWELL.
NECKTIE AND COLLAR HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 4, 1920- Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
INVENTOR BYRON J. MCDOWELL, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
NECK'IIE AN D COLLAR HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BYRON J. MoDowELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego in the county of San Diego and State of lalifornia, have invented a new and useful Necktie and Collar Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices on which a necktie can be properly placed without that the necktie has to be put around the neck of the user.
One of the objects of this invention is to properly fold and arrange a necktie without any device but so asto fit over the device disclosed in this application so that any number of neckties may be folded and arranged and in such arranged condition can be placed or replaced on the device one at a time.
Another object is to provide a device which can be replaced from one tie to another without that the ties have to be undone.
Another object is to provide a device which will firmly hold and engage a tie fully arranged and ready to be put to the neck of the user.
Another object is to provide a device which will support a so-called soft collar in a smooth upright manner when the device with a tie is placed in position.
Another object is to provide a device which will properly engage the lower corners of a soft collar in a similar manner as a double button or small chain or other similar devices usually placed into the button holes in the outer flaps of such soft collars and disposed below the tie so that the tie will be tightly held between the folds of the soft collar and so that the lower front corners of the soft collar will properly en-- ga e and lie over the tie.
ther objects will appear from the following description and appended claims as well as from the accompanying drawlng, in which- The figure is a front elevation of the device with a tie and a collar outlined in dotted lines in proper relation to the device.
The center portion 1 is formed to engage over a button in a shirt and collar for holding the device and thereby the tie in proper relation to the collar and shirt. The whole device is preferably made of spring-like ma terial, as steel or brass wire, or any other Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Application filed February 4, 1920. Serial No. 356,222.-
tie, the loop portions being naturally also back of the tie. The portions 4 serve also to support a soft collar when the device is used with a soft collar. Soft collars naturally collapse easily and then naturally ap pear untidy. With this device, the loop portion 1 engaging over the shirt button, and the portions 4 projecting upwardly to close below the upper edges of the'collar, any soft collar is naturally held up and supported with the upper edge a corresponding distance above the shirt button, as will easily be understood. The portions 5 and 6 are bent so as to clamp the tie properly between these portions. When using this device, the tie is folded and arranged so that the body portion 7 of the tie has two straps 8 and 9 extending sidewise in the directions where such straps usually go around the neck of the user, but these straps go back into and through the body ortion of the tie so as to form a loop on eac such strap end 8 and 9. These loops 8 and 9 of the tie are slipped over the portions 6 of the device between the portions 5 and 6.
With the portions 4, 5 and 6 disposed between the folds or flaps of the collar so as to form the support for the collar, the terminations 10 are bent upon themselves to be clamped or slipped over the lower corners or edges of the outer flaps of the collar as indicated at 11. This engaging of the outer flaps of the collar 12 at the outer flaps 11 gives the same or a similar appearance as if the links or double buttons or pins are placed in the button holes, usually provided near the lower edges of such soft collars, or as if a pin or similar device is clamped or fastened to the lower edges of such collars,
to. keep such lower corners neatly arranged over the tie, as will easily be understood.
When used with other than soft collars,
such extensions or portions 10 are left off and the device ends or terminates at a suitable point near or below the portions 6, as
will easily be understood without ,further illustration. p
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a device of the class described, a
7 center portion made of springmaterial in a loop form to removably 'fit over a shirt button, the said loop narrowing down on both sides of the-shirt button close to the supporting members for a collar, the center proper adapted to be opened for disengaging from a shirt button by a pressing centrally of the upwardly extending ,termina tions of the device.
2. In a device of the class described, a 7
center portion made of spring material 1n a loop-form to removably fit overa shirt 'button, further portions extending upwardly and sidewise' forming clamping. members for tie straps and forming the supporting means for a soft collar, and still further portions being the terminations of the device having clamping ends adapted to en gage over the outer edge of the outer flaps of a collar, all substantially as described;-
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my, invention I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribin witnesses.
