THOMAS J. PEASLEE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,859, dated March 18, 1873. l
To all whom 'it may concern: l
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. PEAsLEE,-
of Boston, of the countyof Suiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful orImproved'Seamer for a Sewing-Machine; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specication and represented inthe accompanying drawing, of Which- Figure 1 is a top view, and Figs. 2 and 3 opposite end elevations of it as provided with a stationary shoulder. V.
The object of the article is to fold a strip of cloth along its edge parallel to such edge and guide it upon another strip parallel to the edge thereof while the two strips are being sewed together, or preparatory to such.
Fig. 6 is a diagram, showing how a strip, A,
is to be folded andglaid upon a strip, B, a Y
showing the fold and b c the contiguous edges of the two strips, the sewing being through the stripsatd In the drawing, A denotes the body of the sea-mer, formed of plate metal, as shown, and provided with a'shoulder, e, and two lips, f g, all arranged as represented.
From the above it will be seen that the device is made out of one piece of 'sheet metal,
whereby it becomes not only simple of construction and of little cost, but may be applied and used to excellent advantage.
The edge c of the piece of cloth B is to rest against the shoulder e with the seamer projecting over the said piece B. Next, the stripV A, folded near one end as required, is to be passed underneath the lip f, or between it and the body of the seaxner, and drawn along, with the lip g extending into the fold and against the Vertex thereof. As the cloth may be drawn or fed along by the feeder ot' the sewing-machine it will be folded and both pieces will be guided into parallelism, or so that the vertex and edge of the fold of `the strip A may-be parallel with the edge c ofthe strip B.
I lnakeno claim to the subject of the United States patent No. 121,293.-
I claim- The seamer as made or provided with the lips f g and the shoulder e. all being of one piece of metal, and arranged and constructed as shown and described.
