AUTOMATIC cnnTnrDen-iunenzrirn Specication of Letters Patent.
, Patented lFeb. 15, 1921..
Applicationled .Tu-ne 21, 1920. Serial No. 390,503.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that l RUSSELL J. TURNER, citizen of the United tates of America residing at Youngstown, in the county` of Mahoning and State of Ohio,
tain new and useful Improvements in, Auto-y matic Cartridge-Magazines, of which the following is a specification. 5
This invention vrelates to automatic cario tridge magazines foriirearms, and has for its principal` purpose the providing of a magazine securely inclosedwithin a casing, thereby freeing the magazine roin humidity,f dust, sand and dirt to which the ordinary magazine is exposed. j
Another lobject of the invention is to provide a flexible'push rod actuated by being attached to a slidable clasp mounted upon a spring actuated arm.
A still further' object is to provide a straight outlet end for the emitting of cartridges, this art being an extension ofspiral wound portion having an incased channel for cartridges 'and a spring actuated arm energizing a flexible push rod.
The invention also consists in the further novel constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing` the preferred form of my invention and in which:
lFigUre l is a vertical top plan'view partly in sectiony y Y `Fig. 2 is a vertical side view partly in section.
y By referring to p ll have provided an outlet portion 1 vprovided with a spiral woundA extension 2.M Within the casing 3 'l have provided a spiral partia0 tion ,4 forming a spiral channel 5 in which the cartridges 6 are held. The cartridges 6 are fed into the magazine at the opening -7. Fig. 1 showsthe magazine illed, with the exception of the open channel portion 8. As the cartridges are fed out at the opening have invented certridge Fig. 1, it will be seen that f 7 the spring actuated arm 9 presses the flexible `push rod 10, which is secured to the slidable clasp 1 1, so that the cradle 12 located at the end of the flexible push rod 10 pushes the cartridges up to theopening 7. When the cartridges have been Jfed out until they reach the straight outlet part l the flexible push rod 10 straightens in order to push the last cartridge into the opening 7.
"By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that l have provided a downwardly extended arm 13 which is secured to the slidable clasp 11. At the end -of this downwardly extended arm 13 the flexible pushv rod 10 is pivoted by means otra pin 14. A spiral spring 15 is secured at one end to a bearing 16, which is firmly secured to a bridge member 17 secured within the inner portion of the spiral partition 4. lt will also be seen that the spring actuated arm 9 is provided with a downwardly extended axle 18 which-turns within the bearing 16.
What I claim is: ln a device of the class described a carchannel straight at the upper end, which is connected with the breech of the gun,\ and spiral in form at the lower end, a partition forming a cartridge channel, a casing inclosing the entire` cartridge channel, a spring influenced axle revolubly mounted within saidl casing, 4a bridge member supporting a bearing carrying said axle, an arm portion of said axle, a slidable clasp on said arm, a downwardly extended portion, a flexible push rod attached t'o said downwardly extended portion of arm, a cradle member secured to outer end of said flexible push rod, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.
ln testimony whereof I aix my signature.
RUSSELL J. TURNER,
