GAS-OVEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
Application filed June 1, 1920. Serial No. 385,573.
o all "Lu/tom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Howns, a citizen of the United States, residing at State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Ovens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas ovens.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved gas oven which is very efficient and not likely to burn the articles therein. I
Further objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a front view of my improved oven, a portion of the door being broken away.
Fig. II is a vertical transverse section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Figs. III and IV.
Fig. III is a detail vertical section from front to rear on a line corresponding to line 8-3 of Figs. II and IV.
Fig. IV is a detail horizontal section on a line corresponding to line H of Figs. II and III.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, I provide an outer casing having side walls 1, top wall 2, bottom wall 8, and rear wall 4. The frame 5 for the door 6 is mounted on the front edges of the casing walls. The burners 7 are disposed transversely in the bottom of this casing, an opening 8 being provided in the bottom wall 3 for the admission of secondary air to the burners.
I provide an inner top wall 9 spaced from the outer top wall of the casing to provide a wall chamber or space 10 at the top of the oven. Inner side walls 11 are provided, the same being spaced from the outerside Walls 1 to provide wall spaces 12. An inner rear wall 13 is provided and spaced from the rear wall 4: to provide a wall chamber 1%. These wall chambers are closed at the top by the inner top wall 9. Shelf ledges 15 are mounted on the inner side walls.
An inner bottom 16 is mounted above the burners with its front and rear edges spaced from the door and the inner rear wall re spectively to provide circulation openings 1?. A channel-shaped deflector plate 18 is mounted below the bottom 16 so that it extendsover the burners, the parts above the burners being outwardly inclined so that the heated air and products of combustion from the burners are deflected through the circulation opening 17 at that side.
The inner top wall is provided with a series of openings 19 arranged adjacent its front edge whilethe top of the casing has a vent opening 20 at the rear thereof.
With the parts thus arranged, my improved oven is very efficient. The heated air and products of combustion are circulated through the oven chamber above the bottom 16 and it is found that the articles are not likely to be scorched even when the oven is very hot. This I attribute to the arrangement whereby the heated air and products of combustion are circulated through the opening 17 to the openings 19.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, said casing having a vent opening in its top at the rear thereof, burners disposed at the bottom of said casing and transversely thereof, inner top, back and side Walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the spaces between the side and back walls being open at the bottom and closed at the top by the top wall, the top wall having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise imperforate, an inner bottom disposed in a spaced relation to the bottom and above said burners with its front and rear edges in a spaced relation to the door and rear inner wall providing a transverse circulation opening at the front and rear of said inner bottom, and a channel-shaped deflector plate mounted under the inner bottom so that its parts above the burners are outwardly inclined.
2. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, burners disposed at the bottom of said casing and transversely thereof, inner top, back and side walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the spaces between the side and back walls being open at the bottom and closed at the top, the top wall having a series of transversely disposed. openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise iinperforate, an inner bottom disposed in a spaced relation to the bottom and above said burners with its front and rear edges in a spaced relation to the door and rear inner wall providing transverse circulation openings at the front and rear of said inner bottom, said casing having a vent opening at the rear above said inner top wall, and a channel-shaped deflector plate mounted under the inner bottom so that its parts above the burners are outwardly inclined.
3. In an oven, the combination of an outer casing comprising top, bottom, rear and side walls and provided with a door, a burner disposed at the bottom of said casing, inner top, back and side walls spaced from the corresponding walls of the outer casing, the spaces between the side and back walls being open at the bottom and closed at the top, the top wall having a series of transversely disposed openings adjacent its front edge, said inner walls being otherwise imperforate and an inner bottom disposed in a spaced relation to the bottom and above said burner with its front and rear edges in a spaced relation to the door and rear inner wall providing transverse circulation openings at the front and rear of said inner bottom, said casing having a vent opening at the rear above said inner top wall. 7
- In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
