Description

l. TAYLOR.
Sash for Hot-Beds. \No. 136,78@ I Patfmmdlvl-mh11V,ma.A
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH TAYLOR, OF LOOK NO. 4, MONONGAHELA RIVER, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENTl-N SA"SH FOR HOT-BEDS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,789, dated March 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern: t
Be' it known that I, JOSIAH TAYLOR, of Lock No. 4, Monongahela River, Washington county, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sash for Hot-Beds, Ste.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
scribed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe more fully its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawing which forms part of my specilication, Figure lis a top view or plan of my improvement in sash for hotbeds, &c. Fig. 2' is a transverse section of the same. v
In' the accompanying drawing, A and B represent the side rails, O the center rai1s,'and D end pieces of the sash. The rails A, B, and O are provided with grooves f, in which are placed strips of gum e, so that the edges of the panes of glass will press against the sides of the gum strips by forcing the side rails toward the center rail O, through the medium of the rods g and screw-nuts h. The form of the rails A, B, and O, and the arrangement of the gum strips ein them, are clearly indicated in Fig. 2. The lower edge of the rail B," about midway between its ends, is provided with a hook, l, constructed of heavy hoop-iron, and
perfectly packed, which will prevent the leakage of water through the joints; and by the peculiar form of the side rails B, which are provided with the hooks Z, two or more sashes can be united and manipulated together, which is a great consideration when used for hot-beds in gardens. VThe sash hereinbefore described can also be used with great advantage as sky-lights77 in buildings.
The advantage of protecting the joints by the caps K and packing the edges of the glass in the manner described will be apparent to builders.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as of my invention, is-
In a sash for hot-beds or skylights, the combination and arrangement of the rails A, B, O, endsfD, caps K, rods g, hook l, gum strips e, and glass t', all constructed and arranged with relation to each other as hereinbefore described, and for the purpose set forth. Y
J OSIAH TAYLOR.
