-Q Application filed September 8, 1919. Serial No. 322,247.
This invention relates to overall garments, such as worn by miners, mechanics, laborers and others and aims to provide a strong, cheap and durable garment which is especially designed for the use of miners.
Another object of the invention is to provide an overall garment having reinforc- 111g members which are removably secured thereto in a manner to permit of their ready removal when worn or damaged, or the substitution of new members.
Another object is the provision of means for securing the reinforcing members to the garment in a manner to prevent the entrance of dirt, or other matter, between the reinforcing member and the garment, the bottom edge of the reinforcing member being unattached, so that in the event of dirt or other matter working between the members, said dirt will quickly work out.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an overall garment constructed in accordance with the present invention, one of the reinforcing members being removed.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the garment.
Fi 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a similar view of Fig. 1.
'Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the front reinforcing pieces.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of the back reinforcing member.
Fig. 7 is a like view of one of the members forming the side lacing strip.
Referring to the drawings in detail, like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In illustrating the invention, there is provided an overall garment, which is designated at 10 and may be of the usual or any desired construction and formed of any material suitable for the purpose.
Secured along each of the outside leg on the line 1*1 seams of the garment and extending from a point adjacent the waist line to a point below the knee, are strips 11, the latter being secured along the seams at a point along the longitudinal center of the said strips, so as to provide opposite free edges 12. These free edges are provided with spaced eyelets 18, so as to form lacing strips for use in securing reinforcing members to the garment.
Secured along the in-seams of the legs and extending from the crotch to a point below the knee, and on a line with the lower end of the strips 11, are strips 14:. These last mentioned strips are secured along the seams of the legs in the same manner as the strips 11, so as to provide lacing strips upon each side of the seam, which like strips 11 have spaced eyelets 15. Extending transversely across the garment at a point adjacent the waist line and at the frontand rear of the said garment, are strips 16 and 17, respectively, the latter being secured along one edge so as to provide a free edge and having spaced eyelets 18. The front of the garment is provided with reinforcing members 19 along each leg, the said members having along each side edge and one and spaced eyelets 20. The edges of the members 19 are inserted beneath the strips 12 and 16 and a lacing 21 passes through the eyelets, the bottom edge of the members 19 being unattached. This provides for the ready removal of a worn member and the substitution of a new one, by merely removing and re-inserting the lacing 21, so that the garment may be reinforced or mended with very little time and labor.
Secured to the back of the garment is a substantially U-shaped reinforcing member 22, the latter being provided around its edges with spaced eyelets 23, which are adapted to be positioned beneath the strips 12 and 17, so as to receive a suitable lacing 2 1 for removably securing the member 22 in position.
The manner of overlapping the edges of the reinforcing members 19 and 22 prevent the entrance of dirt or other matter, while the lower free ends of these members are unattached to provide for the discharge of any object which might accidentally become inserted between the reinforcing mem bers and the garment.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right 1s here ment, of reinforcing members positioned over the front and rear of the garment,
strips positioned transversely across the 1 body of the garment and along each leg thereof, said strips having a free edge and being provided With eyelets, eyelets also provided around the edges of the reinforcing members and a lacing said eyelets for removably securing the said members to the strips.
In testimony whereof I aflix 1n signature.
