l IILLIAM It. GOODRICH, OF UTIOA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WROUGHT-IRQN BLIND-HINGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,650, dated March 11, 1373- To all `whcm it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. GooDRIcH, ot' Utica, iu the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved VVrought-Iron Blind-Hinge; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part' of this speciiication, in which- Figure l represents my improved hinges as applied to a blind, the blind being show n closed. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, the blind being shown opened. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the part of a hinge to be attached t0 the blind. ,'Fig. 4is a detail perspective 'view of the part ot' a hinge to be attached to the Window-frame.
My invention relates to wrought-metal hinges, which are not liable to fracture in use; and consists in the peculiar relative construction of parts hereinafter described and Pointed out in the claim, lby which the whole hinge is enabled to be constructed of wrought metal.
A represents a window-frame, and B the blind. O and D are the parts of the hinge,
the upper portions of which are bent over at right angle'to forni ianges c1 d1. In the forward part of the flange cl is formed a hole, c2, to ieceive the conical pintle of the other part, D. The rear part of the flange c1 projects, as shown in Fig. 4, to serve as a stop, c3, to pre-` vent the blind B from swinging back against the wall, and also for the catch of the part D to catch upon, to lock the blind open. -To the forward part of the iian ge d1 of the other part D is secured a conically-enla-rged pintle, d2, rivetedto the leaf, and that fits into the hole c2 of the part D. Upon the rear part of the flange d1 is formed a catch, d3, the edges of which are made inclined or curved, as shown in Fig. 2, to catch .upon the stop cfbto lock the blind open. Upon the forward edge of the lower part of the part D is formeda catch, d",
to serve as'a stop by striking against the.
ange c t0 prevent the blind from being raised from its hinges. In the edge of the ange c1 is termed a notch, c4, for the catch d4 to pass through when raising the blind from its hinges.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isy A wrought-metal hinge, formed of parts O D, the former having the notch c4 and the lian ge c1, with hole c2 and stop c3 in rear, while the latter has the catch d* and the ange di, with conically-enlarged pintle d2 riveted thereto, and a catch, d3, as and for the purpose described. WILLIAM GOODRICH.
