The front plate 2 and back plate 3 are provided with holes 9, 10 respectively through which extends a thumb screw 11. The presser comprises an inverted. U- shape member, the legs of which are indicated at f 17, 18, and. the leg-connecting member at 19. The presseralso comprises a third leg 20 extending parallel tothe leg 18 and spaced slightly therefrom and conand the legs 18, 20am in a plane' substantially'at right angles to the plane] occupied by the legs 17*, 18. This spring 25 the presser with the needle is exerted substantially in a vertical p The lower end of the leg 17 is provided with a longitudinal slot 27 and the slotted end is provided with taper screw threads 28 so that a binding nut 29, engaging the screw-threaded end, will force the furcations 30 of the leg 17 toward one another and thus hold the furcations firmly against a needle 31 which may be inserted in a socket 33 formed in the lower end of the leg 17, the furcations 30 forming the walls of the socket. The furcations 30 may have the characteristics of spring material so as to tend to expand when the nut 29 is removed, thus freeing the needle 31.

The leg 20 prevents rotation of the leg 18 and thus lateral movement of the leg 17 cannot take place. It is to be noted that in the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings the spring 25 is substantially in front of the leg 18 so that the power of the spring ane passing through the U-shape member 1 18, 19, thus avoiding to a large extent the production of excessive friction and consequent binding between the leg 18 and the walls In the instance shown in the drawings the socket member 1 is formed from a single piece of sheet or strip metal andthe walls 5. and 6 extend at right angles to the front and back plates 2, 3 respectively. . In practice, some packing houses will furnish the holders already attached to boxes adapted to hold the wrapping papers and, 1n other mstances, the packers of the fruit will themselves furnish the holders, in

which latter case the fruit packer will fas-- ten the holder to a suitable upright support which he will in turn fasten to a bench or other member capable of supporting the wrapping papers 16.

After the holder has been installed in a manner similar to the showing in Fig. 1,

a package of sheets of wrapping paper will be placed in position to be retained by the needle 31 by the operator inserting a finger beneath the cross member 19 and lifting upon the same to raise the presser sufliciently high to permit the insertionof a package of wrapplng papers which he then pushes into place beneath the needle 31, whereupon he The needle 31 is positioned'adjacent the rear edge of the package of wrappingpa- 'pers and, when the fruit packer desires to remove a sheet of paper from the package, hewill pull the same toward him so as to cause it to tear adjacent the needle. As the sheets are gradually used, the spring 25 will gradually lower the presser so as to always maintain the needle 31 in engagement with the upper sheets of the package of wrapping paper. When the fruit packer desires to transport the holder, he will unscrew the nut 29 and remove the needle 31.

When the fruit packer or other person is inserting the package of wrapping paper beneaththe needle 31, it is impossible for him to pull the presser entirely outof the way 7, since I have provided for the screw 11 engaging the lower cross member 21 to limit upward movement of the legs 18, 20.

I claim: 1. In a paper holder, a body having a way, a presser shiftably mounted in the'way and having a needle-holding leg and having a spring-engaging member offset laterally from the axis of the way, and a spring fastened at one end to the spring-engaging member and fastened at its opposite end to thebody, the spring and needle-holding leg being substantially in a plane extending at right angles to the plane of the way.

2. In a paper holder, a body having a way, a presser shiftably mounted in the way, means yieldingly holding the presser in paper-holding position, and a member mounted in the body and extending into the way and adapted to engage the presser when the presser is moved a'predetermined distance against the power. of the spring, said member also constituting fastening, means for securing the body to a support.

3. In a paper holder, a body having a way, a presser having a U-shape member mounted to shift in the way andhaving a leg connected with the U-shape member, the legs of the U-shape member being connected together near their upper ends by a cross member, said cross member'forming an eye and one of the legs oftheU-sh'ape member extending through said eye, said cross member forming a spring-engaging member at its free end, and a coil spring fastened to the spring-engaging member and connected to the body.

4. In a paper holder, a body comprising front and back plates and side Walls and a partition Wall between and spaced from the side Walls a presser mounted to shift in the 10 body on one side of the partition wall, and

a spring connected at its upper end to the presser and having its lower portion retained in the body on the other side of the partition.
