Description

R. J; LEWERS.
TIE HOLDER. APPLICATION men APR- 1'. 1920.
1 ,363,888, Patented Dec. 28, 1920.
I [Me/afar.
PATENT OFFIE.
ROBERT J. LEWERS, OF NEW YORK, NQY.
TIE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 7, 1920. Serial No. 371,908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT J. Lnwnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York. in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a tie support and has for its object to provide means for bolding a four-in-hand tie formed and securing the same in position under the folds of a collar.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pin for holding a tie formed and securing the same to a collar button.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear later, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is an elevational view of my device,
Fig. 2 is a top view thereof,
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a four-inhand tie taken from the rear and embracing my invention Fig. 4 is a detail view,
Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig. 1 showing a modification of the invention,
Fig. 6 is a view thereof similar to Fig. 2,
Fig. 7 is an elevational view thereof showing the reverse side of the pin,
Fig. 8 is a similar view of another modification.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a stick pin for the double purpose of pinning a four-in-handtie 2, formed, and holding the same secured to a collar button 3. The device consists of a pin A having soldered or otherwise secured thereto a head 5 formed of a metal plate having inclined edges 6 and 7, which which the pin 1 is run into the folds of the tie, from the back thereof, in such a manner as to engage all of the folds necessary to prevent the tie from becoming unfastened from its desired form; then the stick is removed and the tie is ready for use and can readily be clasped to the collar button 3 by means of clasp 10. When the tie becomes soiled or worn at the bow it can be quickly unfastened and reformed at a new place, thus the life of the tie is very greatly extended, especially as the part that usually encircles the neck can, with my device, be utilized in the bow. The extending end 16 of the tie may be caught up by the pin 1 so as not to be in the Way. The member 5 may be formed slightly concavo-convex if desired.
In Figs. 5, 6 and 7 I illustrate a modified form of the device in which the pin 17 is provided with an enlarged T-head 18 of sheet-- metal the upper edge 19 of which has a central recess 20 into which the central projection 21 of the clip 22 is bent. Similar recesses 23 and 2 1 are provided in the lower edge 25 into which the ends 26 and 27 of said clip are bent whereby the clip is held to said head 18. The head 18 is bowed as indicated in Fig. 6 whereby the tie 28 is given a puffed appearance from the front. The outer ends of the bow of said tie being held against the extreme ends 29 and 30 of the head 18 by means of common pins 31 and 32.
In Fig. 8 I show another form of the device in which the clasp supporting member 31 has a safety pin 32 hinged thereto whereby it may be pinned to a tie. A collar button clip 33 is secured to member 31 in the same manner as is the clip 22.
Having now described my invention, that which I claim as new is 1. A device for the purpose described consisting of a pin having a collar clip connected therewith, said pin having a head formed to hold the clip thereto, said head being concavo-convex to shape a bow to which it is attached.
2. A device of the character described consisting of a pin having a sheet metal head with its side edges returned to form channels and a spring clip mounted in said channels.
3. A device of the character described con- Patented Dec. 28, 1920.
sisting of a pin having a sheet metal head With its side edges returned to form channels and a spring clip mounted in said channels, said clip being formed W-shaped.
4L. A device of the character described consisting of a pin having a sheet metal head with its side edges returned to form channels and a spring clip mounted in said channels, said clip being formed W-shaped,
the intermediate part of which forms a 10 spring collar button engaging clasp.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ROBERT J. LEWERS.
