Description

V. GUINZBURG.
GARMENT SHIELD.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 4. 1920.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
VICTOR GUINZBURI OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO I. B. KLEINERT RUBBER column, 01* NEW YORK, N. Y.,
A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
GARMENT-SHIELD.
Application filed June 4,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VICTOR GUINZBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garment- Shields, of which the following is ,a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a garment shield which will be light in construction; which can be economically made, and which may be worn with comfort.
A further object of this invention is to provide a garment shield of the character above mentioned which will be held in place on the wearer without the necessity for sewing the same in position in a garment and without the use of pins or other objectionable fastening devices; and which when placed in position, will remain so under all conditions of wear.
With these objects and other objects which may hereinafter appear inview, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more par? ticularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto. 7 v
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment shield, provided with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the connecting strip between the shields. 1
Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, as disclosed in the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a pair of arm shields, each of which is composed of a body flap 1 and an arm flap 2. At the juncture of the two flaps 1 and- 2 I provide a cord 3 which'is preferably in the nature of elastic material and which passes over the' shoulder of the wearerto hold the shields close to the arm pit.
The arm flap 2 is provided with a transversely extending elastic cord 4 which extends about the arm of the wearer and .causes the flap to be held closely thereto.
Secured t0 the inner face of each of the g body flaps 1 isa flap 5 which is preferably,
for convenience and comfort, made of a netted or open mesh material as shown at 6 andextending from the end of each of these Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1920.
1920. Serial No. 386,562.
be understood that the flaps 5 extend at the front of the wearer and to secure the device in place, the tapes or ribbons 7 are tied or otherwise secured together.
Connecting the shields is a strip of elastic fabric 8 which passes about the back of the wearer. This strip is connected at its ends to theinner face of the body flap 1 by the stitches 9 as shown in Fig. 2.
The strip 8 is preferably composedof a section of inelastic fabric which is gathered or shirred to produce a number of folds 12. Secured to the inner face of said inelastic strip are a number of spaced-apart strips of a flat unshirred elastic material 13. These strips are preferably in the nature of narrow elastieiwebbing.
It will be noted that the inelastic strip of fabric 10 is provided with hems 14 at its longitudinal edges which hems are secured by the lines of stitching 15. It will be also noted that these lines of hem-stitching 15 secure the edge-strips of elastic material 18 to the inelastic material. The central strip of elastic material 13 is held in place by a longitudinally extending line of stitching 16.
It will be seen that the entire strip 8, constructed as above set forth, is expansible longitudinally within the limits of the folds or shirring of the inelastic material 10. It will also be notedthat intermediate of the elastic strips 13, the inelastic material 10 possesses a fullness which permits slight lateral expansion and which tends to enhance the appearance of the strip 8, likewise permitting'the strip to conform to the body under all conditions of wear.
From the foregoing it will be obvious tha my invention is not to be restricted to the embodiment shown but is broad enough to cover-all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
Having, described my invention, what I claim is 1. An article of the class described com prising a pair of dress shields, an expansible strip. connecting the same, said strip comprising an elongated section ofshirred inelastic material, having inturned or hemmed edges, stitching securing said hems in position and likewise securing strips of flat unshirred elastic material to the face of the shirred strip.
2. An article of the class described comprisinga pair of dress shields, an expansible strip by said stitching and a strip of fiat strip connecting the same, said strip comelastic material secured to the face of the prising a section of shirred material having shirred strip intermediate of the elastic 10 its edges hemmed, a line of stitching eX- edge strips.
5 tending along each of said edges to produce Signed at the city, count and State of the hems, a strip of flat elastic material se- New York this 2nd da of une, 1920. cured adjacent to the edges of the Shirred VICT R GUINZBURG.
