IMPROVEMENT IN PAINT-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,288, dated February 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP WAGNER, of' the eity, county, and State of New York, have iuvented'a new and useful Improvement in Paint and Varnish Brushes, of which the following is a specification:

'I his invention relates to a new extension brush-case, which is especially applicable to paint and varnish brushes, and allows the adjustment of the same to thicker or thinner paint or varnish.

The top or bridge a of the ease A, which is usually soldered flat upon the upper edge of the face-plates, is, in my invention, provided with side `flanges b b, as indicated in Fig. 2.
The bridge thus made is sprung over the top of the case and fastened by solder, and will then and by the aid of its anges be held firm and secure. The lower part D of the ease A is made movable up and down, and can be fastened by a screw, d, atsuitable height. This slide or sleeve D is made of metal or other hard material, and will,wl1euset down, shorten the working part of the hairs, or lengthen them when moved up. vThe paint or varnish will be arrested by the lower edge of the extension D, and cannot enter within such extension.
For thicker varnish or paint the sleeve D is moved down 5 for thinner material it is set up, and also when the hairs are worn short.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The extension ease D, held in place on case A by a screw, d, and applied to a brush, substantially as herein shown and described.
