J. D. McFARLAND.
ROUGE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.30| I920.
Patented Dec. 21, 192061 VINVENTOR J. 0. MC FARLAND 6 A TORNEY II/IIIIIIIIIIII/l/I/I/II/III/ JOHN D. MGFARLAND, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
ROUGE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1920.
Application filed August 30, 1920. Serial No. 407,010.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JoHN D. MCFARLAND, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Rouge-Holder, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had'- to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object of my, invention is to provide a rouge holder which will be simple andcompact in construction and neat in appearance and from which the rouge may be taken by an applicator forming part of the holder itself.
My invention consists in a box, preferably cylindrical in form, in which a cake or stick of rouge is spring mounted, together with a scraper for detaching a portion of the rouge and an applicator for removing the detached portion from the holder to be applied in the usual manner.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a rouge holder made in accordance with my invention, Figure 1 is a vertical section, Fig. 2 a perspective 'view of the scraper and Fig. 3 a sectional view showing a slight modification.-
5 indicates a box forming the body of the holder, which box is preferably cylindrical in form. 6 is a cake or stick of rouge which fits snugly in the box 5 and is supported on a disk 7. The upper face of the disk 7 is provided with projections 8 adapted to enter the cake of'rouge 6 so as to prevent rotation, of the cake relative to the disk. The disk 7 .is forced upwardly by means of a coil spring 9 hearing at one end against a lug 10, projecting downwardly from the disk 7, and
at the other against stop 11, formed in the bottom of, the box 5. The spring 9 thus prevents the rotation of the cake and attached disk 7 when the scraper is operated as will be hereinafter -described.
12 is the cover of the box 5. This cover is provided with a downward projecting flange 13 surrounding the upper end of the box and with a central stem 14: carrying the applicator 15. The applicator 15 is convex on its under face and is formed of fibrous material such as wool. In order to detach portions of the rouge from the cake or stick 5 I provide a scraper consisting of an anoperating on the upper face of cake,
nular member 16 and cross arms 17 the cross arms being slightly curved to conform to the convex under surface of the applicator 15. The under face l'd'of the scraper is provided With minute teeth and shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing, or is otherwise roughened to form'an abrading surface to detach portions of the rouge from the stick. The upward movement of the scraper is limited either by an inwardly extending bead 19 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings or by a ring 20 as shown in Fig. 3.
In using my device the cover 12 is placed in position as shown in Fig. 1 so that the applicator 15 will force the scraper against the upper face of the cake 5 and the cover is rotated. Owing to the soft material of which the applicator is formed it will car i the scraper around with it,- thus detachin a portion of the rouge from the cake, which portion will become incorporated in the fibrous material of the applicator so as to be removed therewith. The stop 19 prevents the cake of rouge from being forced out of the box, but allows it to be held in position to be operated on by the scraper at all times.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a stop for limiting the upward movement of the cake, a cover for said box, and an applicator carried by said cover adapted to project into said box. I 2. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box adapted to hold a cake of rouge, of a scraper operating on the upper face of the cake, and an applicator for the rouge removed .by said scraper.
3. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a scraper operating on the upper face of the cake, and an applicator for the rouge removed by said v scraper.
4. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of. resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a rotary scraper operating on the upper face of the cake, and an applicator for actuating said scraper and receiving the rouge removed thereby.
5. In a rouge holder, the. combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a rotary scraper a cover for said box, and an applicator carried by said cover and adapted to actuate said" scraper and to receive the rouge removed thereby.
6. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a rotary scraper operating on the upper face of the cake, said scraper comprising an annular member provided with cross bars, and an applicator adapted to actuate said scraper and to receive the rouge removed thereby.
7. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a cake of rouge in said box, a rotary scraper operating on the upper face of the cake, said scraper comprising an annular member pro vided with cross bars, said scraper having an abrading under face, a cover for said box, and an applicator carried by said cover and. adapted to actuate said scraper andto receive rouge removed thereby.
8. In a rouge holder, the combination with a box, of resilient means for supporting a calte of rouge in said box, a rotary scraper operating on the upper face of said cake, a stop for limiting the upper movement of said scraper, a cover for said box, and an applicator carried by said cover and adapted to engage with said scraper to actuate the same and to remove the rouge thereby.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and aflixed my seal.
