To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnn'r J. Warm, a
citizen of the United States, residing at- Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in -Ifllectrolier Structures, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide an improved electrolier which will include as a part thereof an ornamental depend ing tassel which incloses means for readily connecting various electrical devices thereto in order to supply electric current to said devices. proved electrolier provides an ornamental fixture to which can be attached connecting plugs of wires for table lamps, *acuum cleaners, electric irons or any other electric device which is often required to be temporarily connected to a current supply.
Another object is to so make my invention that the tassel forms an ornamental element in the design of the electrolier when being used or not being used as a means of electric connection, and does away with the necessity of using one of the main lamp sockets of an electrolier as an auxiliary connection, as is usually the custom when connecting devices, such as above described, to an electrolier.
A further object is to soconstruct my invention that dirt is prevented from collectinc. within the tassel or on the electric contacting members since when not being used for connecting purposes, the bottom of the tassel is 'closed by a cap, and when being used for connecting purposes the connecting plug will. serve to cover the end of thc tassel and aid contacting members.
A further object is to make my invention of a strong and durable constructhm so that it can be practically used without injury to the elcctrolier or connected parts.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, l attain in the following manner. rcl'crcnco being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 'l is an elevation showing my in vention when connected to a table lamp,

Referring to Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, 7 represents an electrolicr which is adapted to be suspended from a ceiling h: the same including chains ll which support a body porlion 10. This body portion U) in the pres ent instance is made in the form oia bowl or dome having lateral projections 11 upon which are suspended depending electric lamps 12 adjacent the periphery of the dome 10. The dome l0 has'a central depending extension 13 which is provided with an eye let 1% in which is hung a ring 15. The ring 15 also extends through the looped head 16 of a tassel 17. The tassel 17 includes a shell 1H which may be made of metal or other material.
A tube 19', which may be made of a short piece of pipe, has an upper scrcw threaded cud 2U which fits a tapped holc 2i in the upper end of the shell 18. screw threaded end 20 fits within a. tapped recess 22 in the bottom of the looped head 16. The opening 23 in tholoopcd head 16 extends to said recess 22 and is in communication with the interior of the tube 19. Further than this, the bottom of the head 16 preferably abuts the top of the shell 18, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The lower end of the tube 19 is screw threaded and fits within the top otan insulator 24; said insulator being preferably made of porcelain or other material which is a min-conductor of electricity. The bottom of the shell 18 A portion of thc is provided with an inturned flange 25 providing a central hole 26. The insulator 24 is located within the shell 18 and includes an internally screw threaded metallic bushing 27 which is electrically connected by one strand 28 of an electric wire; the other strand 29 of said electric wire being connected to a contacting finger 30 which is insulated from the bushing 27 and, in the present instance leads to a position centrally within the space provided by said bushing.
The strands 28 and 29 extend upwardly through the insulator 24 and tube 19 and outwardly through the opening 23 of the looped head 16. This wire can then be a threaded through the ring and upwardly denced in Figs. land 3.
into the body portion or dome'of the electrolier from where it, can pass upwardly through the ceiling 8 in the usual manner and may be connected to the same wires which supply current to the lamps 12. Under normal conditions the' hole26 in the bottom of the shell 18 is closed by a flange 31 of a cap 32; said cap having a screw threaded stem 33 which is adapted to be screwed upwardly within the bushing 27. This cap may be made of metal and as such the stem 33 will necessarily have to be made of such height as not to engage the contact-v ing finger 30. Figs. 3 and 5 show the cap Fig. 1, the plug 35 of the feed Wire 36 to the lamp. 3a is screwed into the bushing 27 after the cap 32 has been removed by air screwing the stem 33 from said bushing.
- The bushing 27 and contacting finger 30 are designed to receive a standard plug, such for example as the plug 35, and current will pass through the wire 36 in the usual manner; it being noted that the upper end of the plug engages the contactingfingerj30. Thus an electric device can be connected to my improved electrolier without disturbing or removing any of the bulbs from the main lamps 12 and at the same time the electrol ier is not rendered unsightly since the connecting wire to the device leads centrally downward from the electrolier which does not affeet the ornamental appearance of the electrolier. v p i In the form of my invention shown in Fig. 6 instead of having a cap provided with a screw threaded stem which is screwed menace into the bushing 27, i provide a cap 32 which is hinged at 37 to the bottom of the shell 18* of .the tassel and provide said cap. 32 with a lip 38 adapted to be secured by a spring 39 located entirely within the shell 18. Thus when it is desired to attach'a connecting plug, such as the plug 35, it is construction of Fig. 6 is similar to that described in connection with Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive and l have therefore given similar parts corresponding reference numerals.
While I have described my invention as taking'a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, vghat I claim as new and desire to secure by thetters Patent is I I .1. An electrolier including a depending tassel having a hollow external shell provided with a hole at its top, a tube extending through said hole and having a portion projecting above said shell and another portion extending into the space within said shell. a looped head secured to the projecting portion of said tube; means providing contact members located within said shell and. attached to said tube withinthe shell whereby electric con duit wires can connect with said contact members by entering through the looped head and tube and means forming a connection for said headtoanother portion of the electrolierwhereby the tassel is supported independently of the electric wires; substantially as described. 1

An electrolier having a centrally de pending tassel, said tassel being hollow and having electric contacting members therein whereby a connecting plug of an electric device can be held in' engagement withsaid contacting members, said tassel including a hole in its bottom to'permit the insertion of said plug into engagement With said contacting members; and a detachably connected cap for covering said hole and forming a part of the design of said tassel; substan'-. tially as described.
