To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM M. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Parkersburg, in the county of Wood and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Socket and Shade Holder Ring, of which the following is aspecification.
The principal object or" my invention is to provide a shade holder ring and an adja cent socket efliciently insulated from each other and held rigidly together, the whole device being economical from the manufacturing standpoint.
My invention consists partly in utilizing molded insulating material not only for an insulating casing. but also to insulate the shade holder ring from the socket as well as to hold the ring in place in relation to the socket.
A feature of my invention is a shade holder ring formed with a shoulder.

Each wire is sufiiciently stifi" so that it will hold the sockets and plug in position with relation to each other for assembly prior to application of the insulating casing E which preferably consists of a shellac composition or coal tar product.
A shade holder ring F having an externally threaded portion is held by the casing material in suitable adjacency to socket A and is insulated by said material from said socket at f and shadeholder F is screwed to said ring. In Figures 4 and 5 the plug A is shown held in place in core comprising members G and G.
In Figures 6 and 7 the shell A is in position in threaded engagement with the external threading of the core member H, which member is also internally threaded and has annular shoulder h. A similar core H will be used for shell I A and ring F and the three cores above described are shown assembled with the shells, plug and wiring in Figure 6.

the material belng molded to the inside of shell A and around the wires B and D and outside of the shells A and A but also partially outside of the rings F and F and also between shell A and ring F to provide insulation between them and also between shell A and ring T to provide insulation between. them, the shoulder portion 7t of each ring preventing the molding material from reaching, the threaded portion is and acting as an automatic cut oil' by the cooperation of the shoulder portion of the ring with the edge of the core.
When the molding is completed the device is removed from the mold and the cores are removed the material E at the outside of the rings forming abutments to limit the movement of the shade holders when screwed into place.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a conducting socket; a member to support a shade holder; and an external casing for the socket separate from said member and insulation between said socket and said member; said casing and insulation being integral and being permanently connected to said socket.
2. A device of the character described comprising a conducting socket; a member to support a shade holder; a shade holder supported by said member; and insulating material separate from said member and molded to the outside of said socket and to said member to hold said member in place and to insulate said member from said socket.
3. A device of the character described comprising a metal socket internally threaded to removably hold an electric lamp; a metal ring outside of said socket and ere ternally threaded to engage a threaded shade holder, said ring extending outwardly and inwardly with reference to the outer edge of said socket; and insulating material molded to said socket and to said ring to hold the latter in place and extending between said socket and said inwardly extending portion of said ring, and lining said outwardly extending portion of the ring.
4. A device of the character described comprising a metal socket internally'threaded to removably hold an electric lamp; a metal ring outside of said socket and having an externally threaded portion to engage a threaded shade holder and having another portion of a diameter at least as large as the outer diameter of the threaded portion, said ring extending outwardly and inwardly with reference to the outer edge of said socket; and insulating material molded to said socket and to said ring to hold the latter in place and extending between said socket and said inwardly extending portion of said ring and lining said outwardly extending portion of the ring.
5. A device of the character described comprising a metal socket; a metal ring externally threaded to engage a threaded shade holder, said ring extending outwardly with reference to the outer edge of said socket; and insulating material molded to said socket and said ring to hold the latter in place and to insulate the ring and socket fromv each other, said material forming also an abutment at the outside of said ring to limit the movement of the shade holder when screwed onto said ring.
6. A plural socket comprising plug; two sockets; electrical connections between the plug and sockets; a metal shade holder ring for each socket; and material molded to the inside of said plug and to the outside of said connections and of said sockets and to both sides of said rings and forming insulation betweensaid sockets and said rings.
7. A device of the character described comprising an interiorly threaded metalv socket adapted to removably hold an electric lamp; a metal member formed to removably support a shade holder; and a permanent external insulating casing for the socket having an integral portion to form insulation between said socket and said member, said metal member having avertical portion by which it is held to said casing.
8. A plural socket comprising a conducting shell for engagement with the conducting socket of a fixture; two interiorly threaded metal sockets adapted to removably hold electric lamps; electrical connections between said shell and said sockets; a metal member adjacent to each socket and formed to removably support a shade holder; and an xternal insulating casing for said sockets integrally extended to form insulation between said sockets and their adjacent members each of said metal members having a vertical portion by which it isheld to said casing.
9. A plural socket comprising a conducting shell for engagement with the conducting sockect of a fixture; two interiorly threaded metal sockets adapted to removably hold electric'lamps; electrical connections between said shell and said sockets; an insulating casing for said sockets; a metal ring adjacent to each socket and having a vertical portion embedded in said casing and having an exposed exteriorly threaded portion to engage the interior threading of a shade holder, said casing ed beyond said shoulder to engage athreadhaving an integral portion forming insulaed shade holder; and insulating material 10 tion between each socket and its ring. separate from said member and molded to 10.
