To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DELLA M. HYNos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a complete specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in hose supporting devices, and aims to provide a novel arrangement of supporting means whereby the hose may be supported practically entirely from the hip muscles of the person, with a view to eliminating all strain upon the shoulders or about the waist and abdomen. I For this purpose I provide an improved hose supporting structure which comprises a band adapted to be supported over the muscular portions of the hips and depending in diagonal relation across the front of the thighs, wherethe end portions of the band are provided with means for attachment to the hose. I

It is also an object to provide a structure of this-character adapted for wear either by older persons with means encircling the waist line for retaining the supporting band in proper position, or by younger persons in which case the retaining means may be suspended from the shoulders.

It is also sought to devise a neat, inexpensive and durable device of the character described, comprising the fewest parts necessary for the purpose and adapted. to be worn with the maximum degree of comfort.

With these general objects in View, the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a suitable means of embodiment of the proosed improvement, after which the novel eatures therein will be set forth in the appended claims.

' Referring to the drawing in detail, this shows the improved structure as comprising a straight inelastic band 6 of suitable length and breadth for the desired purpose, the length being such as to enable the band to encircle the muscular portions 8 of the hips of the wearer, with the end portions of the band extending inwardly and diagonally over the thighs 10, as illustrated in Fig. 2.- Each end portion of the band 6 carries a loop.12 the position of which is adapted to be adjusted along the band bymeans of a buckle 14, and these loops 12 are connected with suitable hose engaging and retaining devices 16 of the usual elastic .or any preferred form for attachment to the hose 18.

For properly retaining the band 6 in effective supporting position over the muscular portions of thehips, means is provided for engagement with the intermediate portions of the band and holding the same in the relation illustrated in Fig. 2. In the case of older persons, this comprises a waist strap 20 provided with. axbuckle 22 for securing the strap about the waist line, this strap having one or more shorter straps 24,

with buckles 26, for connection with the middle portion of the band 6. Three of such straps 24'are illustrated, the middle one being secured, as by stitching 28, to the strap 20, and all of said straps 24 being slidingly passed through eyes 30 formed in a strap 32 which is conveniently secured by a single line of stitching 34 to the band 6. At the ends of the strap 32 eyes 30 are also formed for receiving a strap 36 having a buckle 38 at one end, whereby the end portions of the band 6 are retained in their proper diagonal relation across the thighs in front. By means of these adjustable straps 24 and 36, the band 6 may be adjusted into the proper position to suit the individual, a suflicient number of the eyes 30 being also provided for adjusting said straps endwise ofthe band.

' The strap 32 is applied to the outer face of -the band 6 so that the inner face thereof is leftsmooth and unbroken, throughout the extent of its supporting contact with the body.

In the case of younger persons, of immature development, it is preferable to substitute for the waist-line retaining means a pair of shoulder straps 40 connected at the rear to the middleof the band 6 and extending over the shoulders and crossing in front, said straps having their front ends con tainin nected by suitable buckle fastenin s 42 to the band 6 at the sides, as illustrate in Fig. 4. A cross strap 44 fitted with a buckle 46 is provided for connecting said straps 40 at y 5. the back and retaining them in positlon over the shoulders.

It is thus apparent-that I have provided a simple and yet effective supporting means which is adapted to so transmit the pulling action of the hose as to place the strain thereof upon the muscular portions ofthe hips, as will be clearly evident and. understood from the illustrative View in Fig. 2 of the drawing. By this means, the shoulders and waist and abdomen are relieved of all injurious strains such as are incurred in the use of prevailing forms of supporting devices; for the waist or shoulder straps of the present improved supporting structure function merely as a retaining means, in cooperation with the strap 36, for positioning the band 6 in its proper supporting relation in all positions or movements of the body,- all of the effective strain due to the pull of the hose being taken up by said band 6. Thusthe pressure and strains are transmitted to those parts and muscles best fitted for withstanding the same, no injury is possible, and the wearing of the improved structure is attended with the utmost degree of com fort. Only a smooth supporting surface comes in contact with the body, and the pressure is evenly applied over and around the hips, and the adjustable strap devices for retaining the supporting band in place affords a simple and convenient expedient for adjusting said band into the most comfortable and effective supporting position for the particular or indivldual needs of the Having described the invention, what I claim is:

1. In a hose supporter, a straight inelastic band provided with hose engaging and redevices, the middle portion of said band ing adapted to encircle the hips at the rear and slightly below the waist line of the wearer with the end portions of the band 50. ortions. extendand inde endently at the terminals of said end portions of the band, and means engaging lntermediate portions of said band and adapted to retain the same in supportingposition upon the muscular portions of the hips, said means comprising retaining straps sup orting the middle portion of the band slightly below the waist line ofthe wearer and a strap connecting the end portions of the band for retaining the san e 1n diagonal relation to the thighs.

2. In a hose supporter, a straight inelastic band provided with hose engaging and retaining devices, the middle portion of said band being adapted to encircle the hips at the rear and slightl below the waist line of the wearer with t e end portions of the band extending in separated and downwardly converging relation in front of the thighs and with each of said end portions extending diagonally downward from one of the hips and inward across the front of the corresponding thigh, said hose engaging and retaining devices being carried separately and independently at the terminalsof said end portions of the band, and means engaging intermediate portions of said band and adapted to retain the same in supporting position upon the muscular portions of the hips, said means comprising a strap encircling the waist line of the wearer and provided with retaining straps connected with the middle portion of said band for sup rting said middle portion of the band slig tly below the waist line and a strap connecting the end portions of the band for retainin the same in diagonal relation to the thig s.
