' Be it known that I, CARL A. K.-BOLANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes- Supports, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in bed clothes supports, and has for its object the production of a device of this character through the medium of which the clothes of a bed may be supported in such a manner 7 as to relieve any pressure of the bed clothes upon the occupant of the bed. A further object is the production of a support as mentioned, which may be readily and easily applied to a bed, and which will offer no obstruction to the free and ordinary use of a bed.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,-

The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises two uprights 5 and 6, which are arranged at the head and foot, respectively, of the'b'ed 7 to which the device is applied. The uprights 5 and 6 are arranged centrally of the ends of the bed, the lower ends thereof being bent into hook form to constitute jaws 8 adapted to engage with the cross bars 9 usually provided at the head and foot of a bed. Each upright is provided at its lower end with an adjustable jaw 10 adapted to engage with the cross bars at the ends of the bed spring 11, said jaws 10 thus cooperating with the jaws 8 of the-uprights to securely fasten said uprights to the bed. Bolts 12 cooperate with the jaws 10 to secure the same to the uprights, said jaws being 1ong1-' tudinally slotted, as seen, to afford adjustment. f

At the upper ends of uprights 5 and 6 is provided a cross bar 13 having openings in its ends for engagement with reduced threaded upper ends 14 of uprights 5 and 6. Nuts 15 are provided upon the ends 14 to securely fasten the bar 13 to the uprights.

The clothes 16 of the bed are connected with the bar 13 by means of pins 17, which are pointed at their upper ends to facilitate insertion thereof through the bed clothes, said pins being adapted to engage with openings 18 provided in the bar 13 and be secured to the latter by 'means of nuts 19 threaded upon the upper ends of said pins, as clearly seen in ig. 1. The lower ends of said pins are headed so that the bed clothes will be supported thereby, as seen in Fig. 1.. A plurality of openings 18 is provided, said openings being spaced along the bar 13, thus allowing for adjustment of the pins 17 to any position desired along said bar.

With the arrangement set forth it will be seen that the clothes of the bed maybe supported so as to relieve the weight thereof and prevent pressure upon the occupant of the bed. Such an arrangement is of special advantage to those troubled with rheumatism, or other ailments rendering the body sensitive to anypressure whatever. Also, the arrangement is of advantage in warm weather, in that the bed clothes may thus be elevated from contact with the body, which, of course, permits of greater ventilation and thus added comfort.

While I'have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within thescope of the appended claim.
