HIGH-CHAIR TRAY.

Be it known that I, CLoRA J. SNIDEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residin at lVabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful High-Chair Tray, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of my invention to provide a detachable sanitary tray and its mounting, preferably on swinging arms, for childrens high-chairs.

In some respects, the present invention is a development and improvement on the con structions shown in Patent No. 1,021,901, granted April 2, 1912, to Frank H. Henley and myself, and in my prior Patent No. 1,182,938, granted May 16, 1916.

The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a high-chair equipped with a detachable tray mounted in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a bottom view of a tray and its mounting; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, with the tray in normal position.

The high-chair is of any suitable construction, with the usual seat 10, fixed side arms 11, and back 12. Pivotally mounted on pivot pins 13 on. the two uprights 1 1 of the back 12 are two'swinging arms 15, preferably curved so as to permit their pivot points to be high. These-swinging arms 15 may rest on the upper surfaces of the fixed side arms 11, or may be swung upward therefrom in the usual way about the pivot pins 13. t

The free ends of the swinging arms 15 are cross-connected by a U-shaped metal bar 16, the sides of which through the greater part of their length bear against the under faces of the arms 15. At one point near its end, however, each side arm of the U-shaped member 16 is offset away from the under face of the corresponding swinging arm 15, so as to provide a pocket between 1t and the arm 15 for a sliding bolt 17 movable transversely of the corresponding arm 15. Each bolt 17 is turned down at 1ts outer end to provide a thumb piece 18 for operating it, and is provided with a longltudlnal slot 19 throughout the greater part of 1ts length for permitting the passage through it of a pair of screws 20 which fasten the associated arm of the Ushaped member 16 to the corresponding swinging arm 15 and also Specification of Letters Patent.

The tray 23 is preferably made as a stamping from a single sheet of metal, without open joints; and is preferably enameled on the upper side and may be painted on the under side. This provides a thoroughly sanitary construction, by reason of the thorough cleansin which is easily obtainable. The tray usually has a depressed center portion and raised edge portions. The depressed center portion fits down between the two arms 15, while the two raised portions at the ends of the tray overlap and rest upon such arms. Fastened to the under side of the tray, preferably at the ends of the de pressed portion, are two straps 2 1. The two ends of each strap 24 are offset so as to provide forwardly and rearwardly projecting fingers between which and the tray bottom are open-ended pockets. The twoopenended pockets at the rear of the two straps 241 receive the base of the cross-connecting strap 16; while those at the front ends of such straps receive the projecting. ends of the bolts 17, as is clear from Fig. 2. Vhen the tray is attached as shown in the drawings, it may be detached by sliding back the two bolts 17, and then sliding the tray forward to disengage it from the cross connector 16. The tray may be attached by the reverse operation. When attached, the tray is held in place by the interlocking action of the cross-connector 16 and the bolts 17 on the straps 2 1.

I claim as my invention:

1. A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two swinging side arms of a chair, a cross-connector joining said two swinging side arms and swingable therewith, a detachable tray provided 2. A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two side arms of a chair, a cross-connector joining said two side arms, a detachable tray provided on its under surface with forwardly and rearwardly projecting fingers, one set of said fingers being detachably interlockable with the cross-connector by forward or rearward movement of the tray, and locking members carried by said arms and movable into and out of engagement with the other fingers.

3. A" detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two side arms of a chair, a detachable tray, overlapping parts carried by said tray and said side arms for providing between them an interlocking con nection which is releasable by relative movement between said tray and said side arms, and locking mechanism separated from said overlapping parts and mounted on and movable relatively to one of the interlocked parts, said overlapping parts and said locking mechanism acting between said tray and said side arms at more than two points.

A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two side arms of a chair, a cross-connector joining said two side arms, a detachable tray, and an interlocking connection between said tray and said cross-connector, said connection being releasable andattachable by relative movement between the tray and the cross-con. nector, and a. pair of bolts movable transversely to such tray movement for interlocking said tray and arms.

A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two swinging side arms of a chair interconnected to move as a unit, a detachable tray, overlapping parts carried by said tray and said side arms for providing between them an interlocking connection which is releasable by relative movement between the tray and arms, and slide bolts spaced from said overlapping parts and acting between said tray and side and swingable therewith, a pair of bolts mounted between said side arms and the arms of said U-shaped connector and slidable transversely of said arms, a detachable tray, a pair of straps attached tothe under side of said tray and each having one end offset to form an open ended pocket to cooperate with the U-shaped connectorand the other offset to provide a pocket to receive one of said bolts.

7 A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two side arms of a chair, a U-shaped cross-connector joining said two side arms, a pair of bolts mounted between said side arms'and the arms of said Ushaped connector and slidable transversely of said arms, a detachable tray, a pair of straps attached to 5 the under side of said tray and each having one end offset to form an open ended pocket to cooperate with the U-shaped connector and the other offset to provide a pocket to receive one'of said bolts.

8. A detachable sanitary tray mounting for high-chairs, comprising two side arms of a chair, a cross-connectorjoining saidv two side arms, a tray, and an interlocking connection between said tray and said crossconnector, said connection being releasable and attachable by relative movement between the tray and the crossconnector, and

a releasable locking device separate from said interlocking connection and interlocking said tray and side arm. 7
