IMPROVEMENT IN RIPPERS AND RAG-LOOPERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.,136,065, dated lFebruary 18, 1875i.

To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that I, HARLEY M. J oHNsoN,

of Marshall, county of `Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Tool or Implement, of which the following is a specification: l

The nature of m'y invention consists in combining a lag-looper, seam-ripper, button-hole cutter, and eraser in a single implement so as to form a handy and convenient instrument, adapted especially for ladies use, as will be hereafter more :fully set forth.

The accompanying "drawing represents a side elevation of my invention.

a. represents the handle, Vinto which the blade b is screwed or'fastened in any desirable manner, `when the instrument is to be used for the purpose of ripping seams, cutting button-holes, or as an eraser; but as it is to be for rag-looper also, in which the handle is not wanted, a screw, o, is rmly securedV to the end of the blade, so that it can be readily removed from the handle and screwed firmly to a table, window-casing, or any other suita- The point of the blade bis constructed with a cntting'fedge', d, on the rounded side as far as the recess e, while the side h is dull for the purpose of forming a guideto the fingers of one hand, so as to lessen fthe liability to accident. The edge d is used for cutting button-holes and erasing, A"while the blade is'attached to the handle but when removed from it and screwed in an upright or horizontal position to a suitable base, it is to be used as a rag-looper, as follows: The two ends of rags are overlapped, as shown, whichallows the right hand or short end to be crossed over into the recess e, while the long end is drawn back over the point, thus passingthe short or right-hand end through the incision, and forming a perfect loop. On the back of the blade is formed the projection i, the end of which is dull, but has a curved cuttingedge at the point'o, and which forms theseam-ripper.

This implement is very convenient and handy in all households, and forms a very Ydesirable part of every ladys work-box.

. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lettersklatent, is
