Description

I. C. FIFE.
GARMENT FASTENER.
APPLICATION man APR. 21. 1920.

' IKLEY c. FIFE, or TOLEDO, omo'.
G-ARMENT-FASTENER;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
Application filed April 21, 1920. Serial No. 375,496.
I! 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IKLEY C. FIFE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to garment fasteners and more particularly to an improved type of fastener for holding the meeting edges of a garment lation.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a garment fastener which will include pin members adapted to be thrust through portions of the garment to provide means whereby a releasable clip may be utilized to hold the meeting edges of the garment together.
Gther ob 'ects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a garment showing two meeting edges thereof and the application of the invention thereto.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the opposite side of the device.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fi 1.
*ig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4: of
Fig. 2.
*ig. 5 is a perspective view of the pin member and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the clip member.
Referring to the drawin s by numerals the sections of the material 1% and B indicate the meeting edges which are to be connected together in close proximity. Each of the portions A and B having longitudinally extended therethrough the pin member shown in detail in Fig. 5 and which con sists of the straight shank 1 having a loop 2 formed at one end by bending the end of the shank into the form of a ring thus providing a stop member. The opposite end of the shank of the pin member is bent upon itself and the bent portion is sharpened to provide a pin point 3 whereby the pin may be thrust through the material. From the point 3 the two converging portions a extend which are gradually separated to provide a tapered end whereby the point in releasably fixed remay conveniently pass through the material and the portions 4: are then bent toward each other as indicated at 5 formin a loop 6 for the reception of a ring 7. he ring may be removed or inserted by permitting the two sections 1 to spring outwardly away from each other.
Before inserting the pin member, the ring is disconnected and the points are thrust through the material at a point indicated at 8 and then extended along one side of the material for any desired length whereupon the pin is again thrust through the material at the point indicated at 9. The two'straight portions 10 at one side of the material are therefore provided and when the rings 7 are placed in position it will be obvious that the pin member cannot be accidentally or casually removed. The clip member shown. in Fig. 6 consists of a loop 11 adapted to receive one of the members 10 and the clip also includes the overlapped end sections 12 and 13,the section 12 being adapted to be sprung inwardly whereby the loop 14; at the opposite end of the clip member may recelve the other complementary section 10 of the pin member. Obviously both of the members may be readily connected and. disconnected with the clip member to retain or release the meeting edges of the material as desired.
Minor changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
What I claim is 1. A garment fastener comprising complementary pin members adapted to be mounted on the meeting edges of the garment and each comprising a straight shank portion having one end provided with a loop and the opposite end provided with a pointed member forming a loop, a removable ring carried by the loop in the pointed end of the pin member, and a removable clip adapted to engage the shank portions of the pin members. i
2. A garment fastener comprising a pair of complementary pin members each including a straight shank having one end provided with a loop and the opposite end provided with a pointed section, said pointed section having a sharpened point and diverging portions forming a loop, releasable rings carried in the loop at the pointed end of each pin member, and a spring nip member having a loop at each end adapter to be releasably connected With each of the straight portions of the pin members.
3, A garment fastener including a pair of pin members each consisting of a straight shank portion having a circular stop mem ber formed at one end and a pointed section formed at the opposite end, the pointed section comprising a sharpened bent portion, the bent-portion forming opposite diverging members simvped to extend toward each other at points spaced from the said sharpened end of the pointed member to 15 form aloop, end a releasable ring adapted for reception in the loop.
In testimony whereof, I have sflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
