Description

UNITED STATES PTENT OFFIQE.
POLISHING COMPOSITION.
I? o Erawing.
To all whom it may concern P-e it known that 1, Litres FRANCIS LimiNn, a subject of the King of Great r ain, and having declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the United States, a
resident of Santa Barbara, in the county of.
Santa Barbara and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Polishing Composition, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to cleaning and polishing means and has reference more particularly to a composition especially adapted for the cleaning and polishing of hard wood and metallic surfaces.
The object of this invention is to provide a cleaning and polishing composition which will be cheap to manufacture and yet will give a brilliant luster on a hard wood or metallic surface.
My composition consists of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated.
Duplex oil 60% Oil of the soy-bean 20721 Turpentine 10% Gasolene 10% F or each gallon of the above composition one half an ounce of tripoli is added.
In preparing the above composition I prefer to first mix the tripoli with the tur pentille and gasolene and then add the oils in any order. The composition may be sold in bottles or cans and should be well shaken before applying with a piece of cloth or waste to a hard wood or a metal surface.
fter applying the composition the surface is rubbed with a dry cloth until the desired luster is obtained. My olish is especially adapted for use on the body of automobiles, where a brilliant luster is obtained.
The Duplex oil mentioned is a high grade mineral oil with a parafin base. Other min- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 11, 1919.
Patented Nov. 16, 1920.
Serial No. 337,138.
eral oils may be substituted for the Duplex oil with very good results. The turpentine and the gasolene act as cleaning agents as well as polishing agents in my composition but other suitable liquids may be substituted. Likewise other vegetable oils can be substituted for the oil of'the soy-bean. The tripoli mentioned is a substance commonly known as rottenstone and consists in any high grade calcareous or silicious polishing material.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the ingredients mentioned since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent;
1. A polishing composition consisting of a polishing material, turpentine, gasolene, a vegetable oil, and a mineral oil with a paraflin base.
2. A. polishing composition consisting of a polishing material, a mineral oil, oil of the soy-bean, and a cleaning agent.
3. A polishing composition consisting of tripoli, gasolene, turpentine, oil of the soybean, amounting to 20% of the composition and mineral oil.
4. A polishing composition consisting of tripoli, gasolene, turpentine, oil of the soybean, and mineral oil, compounded substantiali; in the manner and proportions as stated.
5. A polishing composition consisting of mineral oil 60%, oil of soy-bean 20%, turpentine 10%, gasolene 10%, together with one-half an ounce of tripoli to each gallon of the above mixture.
