Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1920.
Application filed May 17, 1920. Serial No. 382,147.
To all to ham it may concern Be it known that I, EMIL F. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carboy-Holders, of which the following is a speclfication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in carboy holders, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a holder in which the carboy is effectively and positively held and mounted so as to be capable of being easily and quickly swung into and out of pouring position.
The invention further aims to provide a device of this type which is simple in construction and which has a minimum of parts likely to be rendered inoperative or subject to derangement.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the parts at rest;
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts about to enter pouring position;
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the carboy removed from the holder and the latching bail of the latter in inoperative position;
Fig. 4: is a top plan view of Fig. 8; and
Fig. 5 is a rear end elevation of Fig. 2.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a rectangular metal frame 1 is employed into which the carboy C is fitted and rests. This frame may be constructed of angle-iron form as depicted in the drawings. A rod, rail, or tube 3, is suitably supported by fixtures l from the floor F. This rail obviously may be made of such length so as to accommodate two or more carboy holders. The frame 1 is hinged to the rail 3, for example, by providing straps 5 which have right angular ends or extensions 6 formed with hinge knuckles 7 that movably embrace the rail. The knuckles 7 engage between the bearings 8 of the rail 3, so as to prevent longitudinal movement of the frame 1 relative to the frame 3, as shown in Fig. 5.
For the purpose of removably holding the carboy C on the frame 1, a substantially U-shaped bail 9 is employed which is hinged at 10 to the frame 1 and is swingable from the inoperative position of Fig. 3 to the operative position of Figs. 1 and 2.
The forward or free end of frame 1, is provided with depending legs 11, which engage the floor, and hold the frame 1 parallel to the floor when the holder is at rest.
In operation, the carboy is placed in the frame 1 and the bail 9 is then swung from the position of Figs. 3 and 4 to the latching position of Figs. 1 and 2, whereupon the holder is swung to the position of Fig. 2 about the rail 3 so as to empty a part or all of the contents of the carboy.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the bail 9 and the hinge structure form the sole movable parts of the device, which decreases the liability of derangement of the parts. It will be seen that by using the bail 9 as a means of tilting the holder, the bail will increase its holding or grip ing engagement with the carboy, so that t e latter cannot accidentally move out of the holder. Further, if desired the legs 11, may be used as handles for grasping in the two hands of the user in tilting the holder to pour the carboy contents.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a carboy holder, fixtures, a rail sup ported by the fixtures, and arranged horizontal to the floor, a frame formed to receive a carboy therein, a bail pivoted to the frame and formed to engage the top of the carboy, the bail being located at the rear of the frame, straps secured to the bottom of the frame and having right angular ends formed with hinged knuckles which movably embrace the rail, and legs depending from the rear of the frame and formed to engage the floor to hold the frame parallel to the floor.
2. In a carboy holder, a rail, means to support the rail above a supporting surface, a frame, means extending upwardly from the front side of the frame and hinged to the rail so as to support the frame when at rest below the rail whereby a carboy when in the frame will have its front side to the rear of the rail and its bottom below the rail, and means to removably hold a carboy in the frame and legs depending from the rear side of the frame and engageable with the supporting surface to hold the frame horizontal when at rest.
3. In a carboy holder, a rail, a frame In testimony whereof I have signed my formed to receive-2t carboy, straps secured to name to this specification in the presence of 10 the frame bottom and having right angular twosubscribing Witnesses. ends which extend upwardly and abut the M F MILLER 5 front side of the frame, the upper parts of said right angular ends being formed With Witnesses: knuckles which movably embrace the rail, 7 E. P; TooMEY, and means to hold a carboy in the frame. J. A, MILLER.
