Abstract

326,186. Bates, J. Dec. 3, 1928. Hand-trucks.-A tilting appliance for lifting an upended oil-drum or like cylindrical container A having ribs a and bring- ing it to a horizontal position comprises a rectangular frame 1 fitted with transverse members 2 one or more of which engage beneath a rib a of the drum as shown, with means for holding the drum against the frame, and with rockers 9 which have rolling contact with the ground from the position shown substantially to the position at which the drum is horizontal. The device may be constructed as a truck with wheels 18, and struts 19, and with hinged struts, not shown, at the forward end of the frame for support when the drum is horizontal. The drum is held against the frame during tilting by a pivoted hook 22 of adjustable length, or chains may be used. The transverse members 2 are adjustable along the frame. The handles 5 of the frame are pivoted at 7 and bear against lugs 8.
