Description

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AJOSEPH W. BARBOUR, OF VVINOOSKI FALLS, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALFV HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE D. NASH 5 SAID NASH ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS OOLLAMER, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOP-HEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,753, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. W. BARBOUR, of Winooski Falls, in the county of Chittenden and State of Vermont, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Mop-Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the con struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a section ot' same.
This invention has relation to mop-heads; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the mop-frame and pivoted spring-clamp, substantially as hereinafter more. fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the frame of the mop-head, having its sides connected at the lower end by a concave-convex bar, B. C designates the mop-clamp, consist ing of a rod or wire so bent as to produce the hand-pieces and springs D projecting inwardly, and the transverse bar E holding the loose roller F. The clamp is pivoted at its upper end within and to the sides of the frame A, the laterally-extending arms c of the springs D entering suitable recesses in said sides.
The arrangement ofthe clamp is such that the roller F ts closely within the concavity of the bar B, a pressure against the concave surface resulting from the fact that theradius of the circle of revolution of the clamp is greater than and eccentric to the arc of the concavity. The mop-rag is held between the roller and the concave surface of the bar B, and is arranged by being rst laid upon the roller, the latter being rst Withdrawn from the concavity, and the roller then sprung into the concave recess. In springing the roller into or out of said concave recess the springs of the clamp must be compressed so that the roller may pass the edges of the recess, the roller diminishing the friction consequent upon the contact ofthe bar B and roller.
To canse the cloth to be held more tightly7 the roller may be furnished with a number of studs or teeth to pass through the cloth.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The spring-clamp O, pivoted to the mopframe A, and provided with the round or roller F, in combination with the concave bar B, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH YV. BARBOUR.
Vitnesses J. B. SMALL, WM. L. GREENLEAF.
