Description

G. 1. STANTON.

UNITED *STATES PATENT Y GARRETT er. STANTON, or Los ANGELES, CALITORNIA.
WALL CONSTRUCTION.
To LZZ whom t may concernz. l f I Be itlnownthat I, GANRETT. JSTANTON,
a citizen of ther-United States, and resident ing connected at its ends to the neXt adja cent upper and lower channels respectively whereby a continuous air channel is formed the entire height of the wall,y the channel extending in opposite directions in each alternate course whereby a draft is created and caused to liow through the wall thereby materially reducing'the temperature of the interior of the building.
I accomplish this object by the wall construction described herein and illustrated inr the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof in which: Y- n Y Figure l is a perspective View of a fragment of a wall constructed according to my invention. n
Fig. 2 is a perspective detail, partly broken away, of one form of my tile.
.Fig 3 is a perspective View of mycorner tile. f Fig. l is a cross-sectional perspective showing the method of connecting the air channels. r A
In the drawings Iny wall proper is formed of courses inthe usual manner, each courseA 5 being composed of'pairs of tile 6 which are substantially U-shaped in cross section; The tile of each pair are laid reverselytoy each other, that is the yopen faces of each pair of tile are positioned facing each other Specification of Letters Patent. y Patented,0am` 126', Application med January 14, 1919.v serial No. 271,006.A 7
; therebyv forming.. a-rectangular lchannel, 7.1 `Atthe ends these channels are connected by a passage` which extends kthroughv thebody i of the tile as best shown invFig. 4. -It'will understood that these connections are provided at .alternate` ends of the wall courses.
Inl otherk words` the connection from the lower channel tothe one next above will be at onefend of the wall and the con@ nection `from this lastchannel `will be at the opposite end ofthe wall thus causingfthe air to vpass entirelyr `along, each course before :entering the 'course knext above, thereby forming a continuous air space Lthe entire length .and height of the wall. In Fig. 3 I
have shown my form of corner tile. In this tile the channel 9 isfturned at alright angle near its end to connect with the channel of thewall forming the side.`
Having described my invention what I claim is: f y f A wall construction composedl of a plu` rality of pairs of tile, saidtile being sub.k
fstantially U-shaped in transverse cross sec-` tion, the tile of each pair being laid with theiry open sides inregister vand forming a continuous air channel the entire length of each course, the tile of each, course beingr laid reversely to the adjacent tile in each adacent course ythe tile forminor the endsof 3 2:3
said wall having a portion of the horizontal Vconnecting members cut away to form a connection between two adjacent ainchannels,` said connections being positioned `at opposite ends ofthe wall yin adjacent courses,
whereby acontinuous air channelis formed extending in alternate directions through adjacent courses throughout.l the entire' y height ofthe wall. f
