BUR-STAND. l
To all whom it may concern. Be it known that I,FREDEI:ICK W. K0113, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bur-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bur stands and has for its object to provide a device of the character herein shown and described whereby certain tools such as drills and the like may be conveniently and, appropriately displayed, and in a manner to enable the user to select the proper tool with a minimum of attention.
The invention consists in the provision of a block provided with a plurality of annular steps, the top face of each step being concave and provided with a plurality of vertical openings in which the tools are adapted to be confined.
The invention further consists in the provision of a cover so formed that when in place and locked therein it will prevent the tools from becoming displaced. The cover Application filed March 26.1920. Serial No. 368.918.
is soconstructed as to permit of it being used as a standard for the base block and in a manner to permit the block being conveniently rotated thereon whereby the right tool will come into prominence.
The foregoing provides a construction which will enable the user to conveniently select the proper tool and by the provision of the concave groove hereinbefore mentioned enable the tool to be self centering when replaced.
The invention further consists of the certain new and novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter illustrated, described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference being had to the accompanylng drawings wherein Figure lis a vertical section through a stand constructed in accordance with the principles above set forth and Fig. 2 is a plan view with the cover removed.
The invention consists of a circular base of block 1 which is preferably formed of hard wood although other materials may be employed with equally satisfactory results. Said base is formed with a plurality of annular steps or ledges 2, the top surface of each of which is concave as shown at 3, and said steps are provided with a plurality of recesses A for the reception of the Specifica i f L t r awn. Patented Oct. 26, 1920.
shanks 5 of the tools 6. The concave grooves l assist in guiding the burs to the holes 4 when inserting same in the block. The base 1 is further provided with central bushing 7 which projects through the top and bottom thereof' Said bushing may. be rigidly secured within the base in" any convenient manner and is here shown as merely driven into place. The bottom of said bushing is providedwith a socket 8 for a purpose to be hereinafter described, and thetop of said bushing "is provided with an internally threadedbore 9. A cover l0'so formed as to prevent the burs from becoming accidentally displaced supports. at its top a bushing12 and said bushing is secured to the cover by washers 14 and 15 being placed upon each side of the cover. A nut 16 is then screwed upon the exterior of the bushing which is threaded at 17 for this purpose. The bushing is provided with an internal bore in which is slidably mounted a pin 18 which is provided at its top with an enlarged knurled head 19 and at its bottom with a threaded extension 20 and said extension is adapted to enter the aforementioned threaded bore 9 of the bushing 7. A stop collar 21, fixed to the pin 18, confines the bushing on the pin. 7
When in use the cover is removed by rotating the pin 18 by the knurled top 19 until such time as the threaded projection 20 leaves the bushing 7 when the cover may be removed by lifting upwardly; it may then be placed with the upper part of the bushing 12 projecting into the socket 8 of the bushing 7 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The cover then becomes a stand and the bushing 12 forms a ivot for the base which may be convenien rotated when selecting the proper tool.
While I have shown and described this particular embodiment of my invention it is evident that the same is capable of being modified in various ways and I do not wish to limit myself in the construction of the same further than is required by the state of the'art or that which comes within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A stand for burs or other tools, comprising a block having holes in the top thereof, to receive the burs, and a socket in the bottom thereof, and a cover fitting on the block and having a projection above the top thereof adapted to fit in said socket, when the cover is placed under the block, and form a, pivot for the rotation of the block.
2. A stand for burs or the like, comprising a circular block having holes in the top thereof and a central threaded bore a screw pin adapted to be screwed into said bore, and a cover slidably mounted and confined on the pin and inclosing the top of the block.
3. A stand for burs or thelike, comprising a circular recessedblock having a central threaded bore in the top thereof a cover fitting upon the block and provided with a central tubular bushing, and a screw pin slidable in the bushing and adapted to be screwed into said bore.
7 at. A stand for burs or the like, comprising a block having holes in the top thereof to receive the burs, and a socket in the bottom thereof a cover fitting the block, and a pin mounted on the cover and projecting above the same, and adapted to be placed within and a central/socket in the bottom thereof,
and cover adapted'to fit upon the block or placed thereunder, and a screw pin slidably mounted on the cover, the lower end of the pin being threaded to screw into said bore and thereby fasten the cover on the block,
and the upper end of the pin extending above the cover and adapted to fit in said socket to form a pivot for the block.
In testimony whereof I do aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
