Ihuenior UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOWARD L. GI-IIPPS, OF MASON CITY, NEBRASKA.
NECK-YOKE.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD L. Crrrrrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mason City, in the county of Custer and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck- Yokes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to neck yokes, used in harnessing draft animals to vehicles, its principal object being to provide a neck yoke which is rigid and durable inlconstruction and yet is comparatively lig it.
A further object of the invention is to provide a neck yoke used in connection with draft animals which includes a bar constructed of light strong wood and a truss or reinforcing plate, the construction being such as to permit the reinforcing or truss plate to be removed from the bar should the same become broken and used in connection with a second bar.
Another general object of the invention is to provide a neck yoke having the above characteristics which is simple in construction, consists of few parts, and which can a be manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages'in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts and specific features all of which are to be hereinafter fully enlarged upon and recited in the subjoined claims.
On the drawing:
Figure 1 is perspective view of a neck yoke constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the reinforcing or truss plate removed.
Referring to the drawing wherein like characters of reference designate like parts throughout all of the views, the numeral 5 Specification of Letters Patent." Patent ed Oct. 26, 1920. A Application filed Novcmber 25, 1919. Serial no. 340,521. I
designates the usual yoke bar which is the under side of the yoke bar 5 and extends the entire length of the same. This plate 9 is secured to the yoke bar at the center thereof and the ends of this plate are provided with slots 12, each of which receives one of the eyes 7 From the disclosure it will be manifest that I have provided a neck yoke which is reinforced in its entire length and which is so constructed as to permit a new yoke bar to be used with the Various parts if the old one becomes broken.
The construction shown and described is considered a practical embodiment of the invention but it will be understood that the same may be modified in many respects, and that such limits of modification are only governed by what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
ears projecting therefrom, and a reinforcing plate extending the entire length of one side of said bar and conforming to the shape thereof, said reinforcing plate having openings at its opposite-ends to receive said ears.
2. A neck yoke comprising a yoke bar, a plate conforming to the contour of the bar and extending longitudinally of the under face thereof and the entire length of said bar, said plate having slots in its opposite end portions, eyes projecting from said bar and extending through said slots, rings supported in said eyes, and a tongue supporting element extending through the central portion of the plate and into said yoke bar.
In testimony whereof'I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
