I DISPLAY DEVI CE. i
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. January 3,1920. Serial No. 349,255.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID BAoEnR, a citizen of the United States,-residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented 'certain'new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification. v
My invention relates to an improved display device, designed more particularly to display such articles as bow neckties.
Such display'devices as at present generally used comprise a receptacle having attached therein a stepped display board provided with oppositely arranged incisions into which the ends of the stiff tabs of the ties are inserted, thus holding the ties in display position. These display devices are rather expensive to manufacture and considerable skill is required and t1meconsumed in attaching the ties to and removing them from the display board.
The principal object of my invention is.
a to provide an improved display device of simple and inexpensive construction, in
which the. display board may be cut by a single die, and which will easily accommodate and satisfactorily retain ties of varying sizes. V 7
The preferred embodiment of the inven tionis illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device with the cover removed; Fig. 2 is a development of a fragment of the display board; Fig. 3
is a perspective view of a part of the display board showing one compartment thereof;.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a similar view a 'on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
As shown in the drawing the device comprises two is a relatively shallow box, preferably rectangular,
vention.
In forming the display board, preferably by means of a single cutting and scoring die rial such as cardboard. The blank is scored along the lines 10 and 11 to permit the end and side flaps 12 and 13, respectively, to be turned down as shown in Fig. 3 and support 'f the board within the'box A. The/blank is 'gins of the flaps 20 and" 21.
' ably in size.
principal parts, i. e., the receptacle A and the displayboard B. The former of any desired dimensions, while the latter embodies the 'features-ofmy in? I employ a flat blank of flexible matealso scored along the lines 1 1 and 15 to form the hinge joints for the side tie- retaining flaps 16 and 17 and along the lines 18 and 19 to form the hinge joints for the end tieretaining flaps 20. and 21. Between the score lines 14 and 15 the blank'is cut along the line 22, this cut extending to the cuts 23 and 24, extending atright anglesto the Patented oet. 26, 1920.
cut 22, and defining the outer ends or marformed at either end of thescore line 14, and
similar cuts26 at either end of the score line 15, these cuts 25- and 26 defining the sides of the side tie-retaining flaps 20 and 21.-
v Between the score lines 10 14: at either 7 end of the blank an intact part 27 offthe' blank is left to form the opposite ends of 30 are placed. r
The display boards maybe shipped flat, and may be set up for use by turning down the end and side flaps 12 and 13 and placing the board in thereceptacle A; The ties.
flaps are sufficiently stiff and strong to hold the ties in osition', yet owing to their fiexi- 1 bility and inge connection with the blank body they areadapted to accommodate and satisfactorily retain. ties varying consider- With the construction described above no particular skill is required either to remove the ties, or to properly replace thenfiiinasmuch as the tie-retaining flaps will act auto- 7 matically .to position a. tie centrally in compartment after a-' tie has been, inserted therein.
'Iclaim:' -ff I 7 V r A display device, including a. display board having longitudinally and trans} versely extending intact. blank portions forming compartments, and" parallel sided article retaining flaps hinged to the edges of the several blank portions, there being 7 four of said flaps arranged in oppositely disg r 1,ase,osa
posed pairs extending into each compartment, the end flap's in each compartment extending the full width of the latter while the side flaps terminate at intermediate 5 points of the longer sides cofthe -con1part ment and have a space at each lateral edge thereof.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
