To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, MARY A. G. M0- CARTHY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New Yorkand State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to an ironing board and an object thereof is to provide an ironing board adapted for the pressing of neck ties and particularly those neck ties which have flaring ends with reinforcing strips or linings arranged therein. Another object of the invention is to provide for holding the tie upon the board through the medium of the reinforcing piece in the tie. A further object of the invention is to provide a fastening prong adapted for general use in ironing boards for holding the goods to be ironed while, at the same time, not interfering with the pressing or ironing operation.

To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.

Referringmore particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the boardmember which may be made of any suitable material such as thin wood and is preferably tapered toward one end. A covering member 2 is fitted over this board member and tapers to conform to the shape of the board member. In orderto secure the covering member to the board member, the latter may be provided near its larger end with a transverse series of openings 3 and through these Specification of Letters Patent. To the end of sustaining the neck tie, upon the ironing board, the latter is provided on one face with a number or projections 5 situated near the middle of the board. These prongs or projections incline slightly to the plane of the board and project to the larger end of the board. The tie is fitted over the board so that the board lies between the front face of the tie and the lining, the lining or reinforcing means being on the side of the board on which the prongs are provided. The lining is then engaged with the prongs and sustains the tie on the board during the pressing operation.

In order that the prongs will not interfere with the pressing of the rear face of the tie, they are preferably made resilient and the board is provided in its rear face with recesses 6 directly below the prongs so that the prongs may be received in such recesses when the iron is moved in engagement with them. The prongs may be secured to the board preferably by providing each of them with a portion 7 projected through the board and connecting with a portion 8 having at its extreme end a tion 9 which extends through the board. By this arrangement, the prong is effectively secured to the board without interfering with the ironing surface, the portion I 8 be ng received within a recess formed in the front face of the board. The fastening means herein provided while especially adapted to ironing boards for neck ties may of course, be used in other ironing boards where similar conditions exist. i

From the foregoing it will be seen that there has been provided an ironing board for neck ties which has the covering effectively secured in place thereon. This ironing board has fastening means for the lining or reinforcing strip of the tie, thus efl'ectively holding the tie to the ironing board. This fastening means is resiliently be received mounted and is adapted .to within recesses in the face ofthe ironing board so as not to interfere with the iron ing operation. lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1..Anironing board for neck ties comprising a tapering board member; and securing prongs for the reinforcing strip of the tie immovably mounted on one face of the board and projecting toward the larger end thereof.

2. An ironing board comprising a board member having recesses in one face thereof, and resilient fastening devices for the goods to be ironed movable into said recesses.

3. An ironing board comprising a board member having recesses in one face thereof, and fastening prongs for the goods to be ironed slightly inclined to the plane of the board and movable into said recesses.

4. An ironing board comprising a board member having a recess in one face, and a resilient fastening prong secured to the board at one end of the recess, inclining slightly to the plane of the board to move into the, recess under the pressure of a piessing iron.
