UNITED f STATES ATENTQ FIC 301mm JESSE ROSS, or (mossy, NEAR LIVERPOQL, ENGLAND. i
CANDLE-HOLDER on SAVE-ALL.
Ta'aZZ whom it may concern: 7
1 Beitknown that I, ROBERT JESSE Ross,
a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Crosby, near Liverpool, in the county of Lancaster, in the Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candle 'Holders or Save-Alls, of which the following is a specification. r I j The invention has for its object to provide an improved candle holder or save-all for holding candles in candle sticks, which will enable the candle socketto grip candles of various diameters, and also enable candles to be burnt to or very nearly to the very end, thus avoiding waste.
According to this invention, the improved candle holder or save-all is made from a simple blank of sheet tin or other suitable flexible metal or material. That is to say I stamp out from sheet tin or other sheet material, a blank which when bent into shape will produce (a) a ring, (6) a base, and (a) three or any suitable number of tongue pieces. The tongues are adapted to grip the rim or flange of the candle stick socket while the function of one of them is also topress against or grip the inside of the socket.
The ring'will grip the candle, and the base will form a false bottom or support for the save-all bent into shape, and
Fig. 3 is a view of a candle stick with my.
candle holder or save-all applied thereto.
The blank when stamped. out consists of a disk portion A with a tongue B projecting from one edge, while at. the opposite edge is a strip C at about right angles to the said tongue, and of such length as to extend around the outside of the candle. This piece C has one. two or more tongues D projecting laterally from it, and also at the same edge that those tongues project from,
two or three or "more teeth or prongs E all these parts being integral. This blank is formed up into a socket by bendlng the dlsk j Specification of Letter s Patent. Patented ()ct;12 ,l192() Application filed June 10, 1919. ser al No. 303,149.
' portion Aatright angles to the strip part C, so as to form thebottom of'the holder, then bending the said strip part G into the form of a ring which will expand or contract thus' gripping the candle when the lower end of the latter is thrustinto it, also ing the device in position, or if desired these tongues'canbe wound into convolutions, "so as to rest on top of the candle stick, or bent in any suitable way according to the type of candle stick to which the holder or saveall is to be applied. The tongue B that projects from the edge of the disk portion A of the blank, is first bent upward to the top of the holder before being bent outward, so as to correspond with-the other tongues D, such upward bend gripping or pressing against the inside of the candle stick socket F so as to keep the holder in position. The act of pressing the candle into the holder will cause the prongs to make longitudinal. score marks therein, and then by giving the candle the segment of a turn, the prongs will cut into the candle circumferentiallydents may be punched from the outside of the ring C, so as to form projections on the inside.
The device forms a ventilated candle holder or save-all to which air has free access, so that the candle will burn to or very nearly to the very end. It can be manufactured very cheaply and sold at a small price. i
I declare that what I claim is 1. A candle holder blank comprising a disk portion having a tongue projecting therefrom; a strip connected at one edge with said disk; and a tongue projecting from the opposite edge'of said strip.
2A candle holder blank, comprising a disk portion having a tongue projecting from one edge thereof; a strip connected to theopposite edge of said disk and extend ing .at substantially right angles to said tongue; and a plurality of tongues project- "-ing "at substantially right angles tosaid tongue; a plurality of-tongues projecting at right angles from the outer edge of said strip; and candle engaging-prongs alsoprofrom theouter edge of said strip.
ej ng v 4, candle holder orsaVe-allcomprising a base,a strip made integralatmid length with this base and bent into the form of a ring, a tongue piece projecting upward from the base so as to lie between the ends of the ring, tongue pieces projecting out- 7 wardly {from the upper edge of the ring,and
jprongs' projecting inwardly from the said "upp d p 5. A andle holder or save-all comprising 'a base, astrip made integral at mid length with this base and bent into theform of a ring, tongue pieces projecting outwardly "from the upper edge of the ring, and indents ring, a tongue piece projecting upward from' *the'base so as tolie between the'ends of the punched from the outside so as to form pros jections on the inside of the said-ring.
,6. A onepiece candle holder comprising a base; a wall extending upwardly from and partially around-the periphery ofsaid base;
a tongue projecting upwardly from the base 7 betweenthe ends of said wall; and tongues projecting from the, upper edge of said wall. v V 7 In witness whereof 'l have hereunto signed mynamethis19th day 'of May,-1919, :in the presence ot two subscribing-witnesses.
