HUBERT L. JUDD, OF BROOKLYN, NEWX'ORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORD-TIGHTENERS FOR CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,561, dated February 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBERT L. JUDD, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Oord-Tighteners for Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification This invention is a modification of and improvement upon the device set forth in my patent N 0. 88,17 9.
In the manufacture of cord-tighteners in which the pulley-stock slides in a sheet-metal rack, it is usual to groove the edges of the said stock to receive the edges of the sheet-metal. This is expensive and the stock is not easily entered within the rack.
My invention is made for facilitating the construction of the pulley-stock and lessening the cost of the same. I cast in one piece a button or fixed sheave for the cord to pass around, a stock that passes in between the sheet-metal edges of the rack, and horns that project from the stock behind the edges of the rack.
By this construction the cost is very much lessened, because the parts can be easily cast and do not require filing or fitting, and the fixed sheave produces sufficient friction on the cord to prevent the curtain running down by its own weight.
In the drawing, Figure l is a side view of the pulley and slide with the rack in section, and Figs. 2 and 3 are rear views of the pulleystock and sliding claw.
The rack is made with abox-shaped slide, a, attaching ends d, and ratchet-teeth or projections at b 12, similar to those before con structed. The cord passes around the fixed sheave e that is cast with the stock -i and projections s. The stock 45 is of a width to slide freely in the slot between the sheet-metal edges of the rack a, and the horns 8 project within said rack, so as to keep the stock in place, but allow it to slide endwise. A pulley and rack thus constructed might have attached a spring-pawl to take the teeth I), but I prefer to use the wedge-blockla'nd tooth r. The inclined end of t running upon the wedge-block presses the tooth back into the projections b, as in aforesaid patent; but this wedge-block Z and its handle m are made so that they can be cast complete and ready for use, so as to avoid the expensive grooving heretofore employed. This is efl'ected by usinga wide end contiguous to the tooth 1" and flanges 2:, that rest against the surface of the slide a.
I claim as my invention- 1. The fixed sheave 0, stock 2', and projections 8, cast in one piece, in combination with the rack to, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The wedge-block l with its tooth 1' and flanges o, in combination with the sheave e, stock 6, and projections s, as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed by me this 21st day of January, A.
