Description

a modification of my device.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
THEODOR RUEDIGER, OF CARVER COUNTY, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BELT-FASTENINC-iS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,492, dated February 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEonoR RUEDIGER, of Carver county, in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain Improvements in Belt- Lacin g, of which the following is a specification:
Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure l is a plan view of my device with the auxiliary hinge or clamp removed; Figs. 2 and 7 are plan views; and Fig. 8 is a longitudinal sectional view, showing together Fig. 3 is a lateral view of the lip of the clamp. Fig. 4 is a plan view embodying my invention, embracing the auxiliary adjustable hinge or clamp.
Fig.5 is a transverse section of the same.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the auxiliary hinge or clamp.
My invention consists of the metallic clamps A and B and the auxiliary adjustable clamps or hinge O, with pivots b and E, and the combination and arrangement thereof, as shown and described. A and B are metallic clamps, perforated vertically at e'for the admission of male screws, the lower portion of the perforations being threaded as female screws in order to render the said clamps the more readily adjusted. The lipsv D are formed by folding back the metal and pressing it closely upon the interior of the device. The metal forming the lips projects to a distance sufficient to admit of said lips being perforated and threaded as a female screw, as shown in Fig. 2. The belting being placed between these lips, the action of the screws closes the lips of the clamps and compresses the belting until it is wedged and held longitudinally with additional strength by the lips D. The parts of the device are hinged together with pivotal bars in the manner which obtains in the construction of hinges. G is an adjustable auxiliary clamp or hinge, which is located between the two clamps A and B, as shown in Fig. 4. It consists of a piece of metal whose parts f, g, and hare curved inwardly on either side thereof, and thus fashioned ascylinders for the reception of pivotal bars at f, g, and It. When it is desirable in practice to shorten the belting, the pivotalbars B and E, as shown in Fig. 5, and the auxiliary clamp O, are removed, and the parts of. the clamp A and B are then hinged together, as shown in Fig. 1, and in lengthening the belting the auxiliary clamp O is inserted as shown in Fig. 4.
The construction of the parts of my device may be modified, as shown in Figs. 2, 7, and 8, the parts K and L being folded back upon and closely compressed against the belting.
Claim.
The combination and arrangement of lips or wedges D with clamps A and B, provided with pivotal bars b and E, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THEODOR RUEDIGER.
