GUSTAV AUGUST FRITHIOF BLOMGREN, OF KARLSKRONA, SWEDEN.
NECKTIE-RETAINER.
Application filed May 14,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAv AUGUST FRI- TI-IIOF BLOMGREN, a subject of the King of Sweden, and resident of Karlskrona, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Necktie-Retainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The present invention relates to a neck tie retainer particularly adapted for ties of the kind which is knotted by the wearer and which may be easily disarranged in relation to the collar.
The retainer according to the present invention is constructed in such a manner to permit it to be put on by means of a simple manipulation, on the front collar stud and thereafter. to be attached to the very neck tie knot thus securing rigidly its correct position relatively to the collar.
According to this invention the retainer consists of a wire of steel or any other suit able elastic material, bent to form a loop adapted to be fixed about the collar stud. The arms of this loop are bent in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the loop and thereafter cross each other and are bent about each of the arms of the loop and meet at the opposite side of these arms, the ends of the wire being pointed to allow it to penetrate more easily through the tie material.
Some embodiments of the invention are shown at the annexed drawing. Figure 1 shows the retainer in front view. Fig. 2 shows the retainer in side view. Fig. 3 shows the retainer in a plan view. Fig. 4: shows heretainer in front view in opened position. Fig. 5 shows the retainer attached to a tie.
Theretainer consists of a wire of steel or any other suitable elastic material, bent to form a loop 1 adapted to be attached toi the collar stud 2. The arms 3 and 4c of the loop 1 are bent backward at 5 and 6 and thereafter cross each other at 7 whereafter they Specification of Letters Patent.

are bent about the arms 3 and 4 and meet upon these arms at 8, the ends 9 and 10 belng pointed to permit them to catch the tie knot more easily.
The collar being fastened the loop is placed about the collar stud 2 and hereafter the tie is knotted. The neck tie correctly knotted the arms 3 and 4 are pressed to gether and the tie retainer occupies the position of Fig. 4c, the points 9 and 10 being at this time separated. Hereafter the re tainer is placed under the bottom side of the tie knot and is released, whereupon the points 9 and 10, on account of the elasticity of the arms and the loop 1 penetrate into the tie knot and rigidly position it in relation to the collar.
It is obvious that the invention may be varied in some respects without leaving the idea upon which it is based.
Having now described my invention what I claim is:
An article for retaining a tie properly positioned with respect to the collar comprising a resilient wire bent to form a fork, each tine of the fork being bent back upon itself and then extending obliquely toward the opposite tine and meetingsaid opposite tine at a point substantially midway between the top of the fork and said bent portion, the part of each tine located adjacent the opposite tine being bent around said opposite tine and extending transversely of the main portion of the tines, the ends of the tines thus facing each other terminating in sharp points adapted to be spread by pressure on the parts of the tines adjacent the first bend to pierce and hold the knot portion of the tie when pressure on said parts is relieved, the upper portion of the fork having a loop for engaging the collar stud.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
GUSTAV AUGUST FRITHIOF BLOMGREN.
