Description

L. ANECHIARICO.
STEPLADDER.
APPLICATION FILED APR- 14, 1919.
Patented Sept. 28, 1920.
IIIYEHTOR. I lgb/flrecbtamco 6M A TTORIE Y.
LUIGI ANEGI-IIARICO, OF ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY.
STEPLADDER.
Application filed April 14,
To all am it may concern 'Be it known that I, LUicr A nianICo,
a citizen of United. States, resi ring at 151 risbury avenue, A bury Park, the county of lilonmouth and State of New'ilersey, have invented'new and useful Improvements in Stepladders, of which the following is a speciiica The invention-relates to step-ladders and has for an object to provide a step-ladder of a simple construction, consisting of few p rts that can be cheaply manufactured and readily assembled, and also contemplates the use of suitable platforms or ledges together with operating devices for shifting the ladder from one place to another, thus providing structure particularly adaptable for the use of painters, paperhangers and like interior decorators.
Among other features the invention comprehends a stop-ladder which when folded will be in a compact form so that it can be easily carried from one place to another and which can be readily set up in position for use, the platform employed in connection with the step-ladder, being also of a fo dable nature, and when open for use, splying an efficient support for the materims to be used by the decorator in his worlr.
In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which.
Figure i-is a side elevation of the stepladder, with parts broken away or in section.
Fig. 2is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 in Fig. 1, looking in the di rection of tl e arrows. V
Fig. 8-is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. lis a side elevation of the ladder as it appears when folded or closed, and
F 5---is a fragmentary detail partly in elevation and partly in section showing the :foldable arrangement of the platform and the supplementary extension.
deferring more particularly to the views the main parts of the ladder consist of 'a ladder section 10, a prop section 11 suitably hinged to the ladder section at 12, and a support 13 for a platform 14, the support 13 being suitably hinged at 15 to the lower end Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 28, 19,2{1
c' ical shaiis which tcrmin lower ends wheels 20, tions 21 cap pieces a for the la( ing also prov mounted on the operator, standing upon can readily convey the ste place to another or pivotal manner without rec uli i move himself from the i accomplish this re alt.
The platform support 13 carries a suita cross piece 2 adapted to form support for one end of aledge 2 supplementary to second l-d tact forms a continuation of to: set up. This supplementahy formed of a series of parallel st the inner ends of said strlps'pi red on a horizontal cross rod 28, suitably sccuret in bearings 29 on the prop section. A second cross rod 30 is secured to the ladder section and pivoted thereon are aseries of strips 31 having their outer extremities notched as at 32 to fit over the cross rod 28, whereas other strips 3-3 are pivoted to the cross rod 28 and are notched as at 3 1, to fit over the cross rod 30 and these strips 31, 33, when the ladder, is set up, being adapted to lie relatively parallel and horizontal and form the completeledge 26.
By having the various strips of the ledge and supplementary ledge disposed and arranged as mentioned, it will be seen that when the ladder is folded up or closed as in Fig. i, the ledge and supplementary ledge will also tend to be relatively folded and will not project any grea distance beyond the sides of the ladder section and platform support when the same are in relatively closed position.
I By reference to Fig. 3, it will of course be seen that the strips 31, 83, have their medial portions pivoted to a cross rod 35 so that the relative folding of the strips forming the main ledge will be accomplished in the closing of the. ladder and it Will or to, oi'a foldable'ledge mounted on the ladder section prop section, said ledge consisting ot a series 0t strips extendlng in one direction'frorn the ladder section and an-' other series ot'strips extending in the opposite direction from the prop section, the first der section and the series of strips being hinged upon the lad- "econd series hinged upon the prop section with the strips in one series hinged relatively to the strips in the other series, between ladder section and said prop section. s 2. In aladder the combination Witha ladder section and a propsection hinged thereto, of a foldable ledge mounted on the ladder section and prop section said ledge con sisting of a series ofstrips extending in one direction from the ladder section and another series of strips extending in the opposite direction from the prop section, the first series of strips being hinged upon the ladder section and the second series hinged upon the prop section With the strips in one series hinged relatively to thestrips in the other series, between said ladder section and said prop sectlon, and a supplementary ledge formed ofa series of straps, said supplementary ledge being mounted to swing upon the prop section to he in llne With the inain ledge When the ladder and prop sections are set up.
3. In a ladder the combination with a ladder section and a prop section for support ing the ladder section, oi": a cross rod on the ladder section, a cross rod on the prop section,'a ledge consisting of a plurality of series oi. strips, one of said series of strips'being hinged upon the cross rod onthe ladder section and the other series of'strips, being hinged upon the cross'rod oi" the prop section, with the series ofstrips on the ladder section adapted to engage the cross rod on the prop section and the series of strips on the prop section, adapted to engage the cross rod on the ladder section. v
l. in a ladder the combination With a ladder 'sectionand a prop section for supporttion, a ledge consisting-of*aplurality of series oi strips, h 111g hinged upon the crossrod oi the ladder section and theother, series of strips being the prop section, adapted to engage the cross rod on the ladder section, a platform support hinged to the prop section and a supplementary ledge mounted to swlng adjacent the main ledge, and'adapted for engagement ing the ladder section, of a cross rod on the ladder section, a cross rod on the prop secone oi said series or strips be- 7 with the platform snpport for supporting the supplementary ledge in the horizontal plane of the main ledge when the ladder and prop sections are in relatively open position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my'signature.
