The type of machine to which 'this `inven- 'tion relates is clearly indicated by F 1. The name eyelet machine was first applied to such machines nearly half a century ago because at first they were used only to make eyelets; but subsequent experience demonstrated their vadaptability to yan almost unlimited class of workv of the vnature which'involves theV cutting of a blank Afrom sheet metal and'` subsequent operations of drawing, forming,piercing, light stamping or the like. Hence nowadays eyelet machines are designed and usedto make various small sheet metal articles which are finished complete by the machines without any annealing or subsequent operation whatever. Y

Such `clearance has amounted to several sixteenths of an` inch in some'I cases when lthe fullrange of adjustment hasbecn used asit frequently the case. Ofycourse, however, whenkey 23 is atV the other extreme o positionv of adjust ment the bumper head 22AV will rest directly on 295. but this isnotjthe usualcondition, and usually there isa A.substantial clearance as indicated at Z Fig. 2.. In the present invention I have provided a remedy for the abovedefect vwhich is included in the construction ofFig.. 1 and this is particularly adapted to be added to eyelet machinesv already in use and provided with the .old general form of construction of bumper head and plunger head shown in both Figs. 1 and 2, save that in this invention the bumper head is vmade shorter than heretofore which may beV easily Adone on existing machines.
