Description

A. YAUCK. COLLAR BUTTON.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 4, 1920.
PatentedSpt. 21, 1920.
5] wuewtoz UNITED stares rarer ALEXANDER YAUGK, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
- COLLAR-BUTTON.
' Application filed March 4,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER YAUOK, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in means for securing collars to shirts at the back.
The objects are, first, to provide such device in form adapted to be applied to a shirt-band, in the back button-hole, it being made of material that will not discolor the garment and which is inexpensive to manu-' facture and easy to attach.
Second, to provide devices that can be used equally well with any style of collar, as
' standing, turn-down, high or low, and with less difficulty than the common detachable fastening means, the device being essentially flat so that it can be employed to button the back, avoiding the binding of the common buttons, leaving a free passage for adjusting a tie of the scarf type in the turn-down collar.
Third, to provide such devices having a tasteful and ornamental appearance and which, by reason of their peculiar thin flat shape, are worn with exceptional comfort and used with more facility than a detachable button, besides being always ready for use.
These and other allied objects are attained by the novel construction and configuration hereinafter fully set forth and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the application of the button.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken. on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the button in detail.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates a fragmentary portion of a conventional type of shirt such as is commonly worn by men, the same having a lining 11 at the band 12 and a doubled outer covering comprised of elements 13 and 14, these being connected by a row of stitches 15 at the outer edge, a similar row of stitches 16 being at the bottom of this band Specification of Iletters Patent. t nt t, "21, 1926;
1920. Serial No. 363,290.
passes through the j fastener made of a sheet or plate of thin non-corrodible metal, as silver, aluminum or plated as may be preferred, and shaped into an elliptical head 25 having its longer axis disposed horizontally and connected at its lower edge with a bar like strip 26 the curved end 27 of which extends upward par allel with and beyond the upper edge of the plate 25.
This plate 25 is formed convexly, its center portion 30 normally being nearly in contact with the strip 26, which is curved or bowed toward the plate throughout its entire length, as best seen in Fig. 4.
The lower portion of the plate 25, below the center 30 is curved slightly outward,
forming a recess 28, and then joined by a sharp bend 29 to the strip 26.
In operation the strip or bar 26.is inserted through the button hole 22 until the end 27 contacts with the stitching 15, whereupon the sharp bend 29 is entered below the band element 14 into the space 17 holding the button shank or strip 26 firmly in engagement and the button hole of the collar passed over the extending head 25 in the same manner as an ordinary button but with the difference thatthe collar is drawn by spring pressure tightly against the band due to the convexity of the head and obviously will be securely held without the usual protuberance of a stud or button as commonly used.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction and use, what I claim a new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A button of the class described comprising a vertical strip adapted to be head formed with said strip, said head being bent convexly and disposed approxi wholly embedded in a neck band, an oval mately parallel to said strip, and resilient integral connecting means extending between said strip and head; said head being adapted to pass through the button-hole of a collar.
2. A button of the class described com:
prising an outwardly curved strip having a sharp rentrantly turned bend at its lower end adapted to be bodily inserted in a neck band, an oval headintegrally joined at its 10 lower edge to said strip by the bend the long diarneter of said head being transverse and adjacent to said strip above the'bend.
