HEATER. V
Specification of Letters Patents I Application'filed December 2, 1919. Serial No. 341,938.
To all w ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. BoWLUs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, .in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the same time act as a heater for the bath" room.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simply constructed and arranged and which can be very cheaply manufactured.
My invention will be more fully under-.
stood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which F igure 1 is a side elevational view of a bath tub also a side view of the heater in position underneath the tub.
Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the heater with part of the top broken away.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of Fig. 2 taken on line 33 thereof, and
Figs. 4c, 5 and 6 are detail views respectively of the air and gas inlet arrangement and means for supporting the interior anel.
Referring more particularly tor-the awings, 1 represents a bath tub of any standard make with the usual inlet and outlet pipes 2 and 3, underneath which tub is placed the heater. The heater is constructed of sheet metal and has its'side walls 45-4 slanted obliquely inward and the top or upper part having the ridges 5 with openings 66 constituting the burners. The lower end of each side wall 4 is bent outward as shown in Fig. 3 to form a channel to receive the bottom plate 7 of the heater, both ends of which are closed by the end plates 8.
Inside the heater is arranged a panel 9 which is attached to one of the walls 4, its lower end supported upon an angular strip 10 riveted to the .bottomplate 7. The panel 9 it will be noted by reference to Fig. 2extends to within a short distance of the end walls '8, leaving a space between the end walls and the ends of the anel 9, andthere is also a space between t e bottom of the panel 9 and the bottom ofwplate 7. 7
On one of the outer side walls 4 is ar- 12 of which has the circular apertures l313 for admitting air for mixture with the gas and a circular opening 14 for the nipple of a cook 15 which will be referred to later. Inside the box-11 and traversing the front wall 4 is a tube 16 for entrance of the gas. A plate 17 connected to the bottom plate 7 supports the gas-cock 15.
The gas cook 15 is of the ordinary type with the usual nipple 16 on its forward or discharge end for spraying the gas. On the nipple 16 is screw threaded a thimble 17*.v
with an opening 18 relatively larger than the openings in thimb-les heretofore employed with the cock. This thimble when advanced or retractedon the nipple serves to decrease or increase'the volume or density of the spray of gas.-
The mixture of gas and air passes through the tubular opening 16 into the heater, thence under the panel 9 and between the end walls 8 and the ends of the panel into the larger compartment of the heater. It is thus thoroughly mixed with the oxygen in the air and rises into the burner top '5, being ignited as it passes through the open ings 6-6.
The heater can be very cheaply manufactured and will not crack the enamel onthe bath tub or smoke the surface of the tub.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-' l. A heater for bathtubs and the like preferably oblong in shape and adapted to be placed underneath a bath tub and having I its sides slanted obliquely inward and its ends vertical, the top of the heater forming 100 a plurality of upwardly extending V-shaped" protuberances with perforations and constituting burners for the heater, a panel within the heater attached to the front wall of the heater with a space between each end I ranged a triangular shaped box 11, the face of the panel and the ends of the heater, said tion With a gas cook having a conicalspraypanel supported upon strips connected to ing nipple and a thimble thereon a relatively v the bottom of the heaterand forming. ajylarge opening in the ofthethimble, space betweenthe bottom ofthe panel and whereby when the -'thi1nl')le' isadXfanded or 5 the bottom of the heater for the circula retracted 0n the nipple the density'of the 15 tion of gas. v v N gas is decreased or increased.
2. A heater for bath tnbs' preferably ob- Inrtes'tiifionj whereof I have signed my long in shape with inwardly slanted sides -name to this specification. v 7 vertical ends and V-shaped burners on its 10 top, a panel Within. the heater, in combinag -c v CHARLES F. a
