Specification of Letter-srPastent. j Patented Sept. 7, Y1920.
Application led December 21 1918. Serial No.l 267;,791. A
mills for conveying and elevating filled sacks of iiour.. An Object ofl my invention is. to provide an apparatus which will con# vey filled sacksin upright position underneath a device ,for Vclosing the upper lends v.thereof and deliver they closed sacks inV recumbent position to an elevating apparatus so that the sacks will vlie lengthwise upon lifting fingers secured to the elevating apparatus. l
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and the inventive idea Vembodied in my construction will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the application of my invention in one forIn,-
Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is a View in vertical section on the line 2-.-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front view. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view of the lower portion of the construction shown in Fig. 3.
In the construction shown inthe drawings, 10 designates a sewing machine or other closing device underneath which passes a belt 12 traveling the direction of the arrow a and positioned to carry filled sacks with their open tops underneath the device' 10 by which they are closed. A short l endless belt 14 is positioned adjacent the delivery end of the belt 12 with its direction of travel at right angles to the direction of travel of the belt 12. The upper stretch of the belt 14 travels in the direction of the Y arrow 7) and ispositioned at a somewhat lower level than the belt 12. The belt 14 passes around end rollers 1G and 1S and the upper stretch is supported by idlers 20. A driving pulley 17 is secured to the shaft of one of the end rollers. Adjacentthe delivery end of the belt 11i is a comb 22 attached to the frame 24. An endless elevating belt 26 passes over an upper roller 28 and a lower roller 80, these rollers being mounted'inthe side members 32and 3,4;
drivingpul1ey29v vis secured to the shaft of the upperroller.l Attached-to thefbel't 26 at regular intervals are sack-elevating members 36 consisting of fingers adapted to passy betweenl the vteeth of the comb 22.*.: Adjaeent the upper or delivery end ofA thev belt 2,6 is an inclined plate 38 having teeth AO between which the lingers ofthe lifting memoers 36 are adapted' to pass. `Passing underneath the lower end of this plate is the receiving'endof a traveling belt 412.
The operation and advantages of my invention j will be readily understood from the'foregoing description. Filled' sacks are placed in Vupright positionupon the belt The iclosedV sacks when .they reach the delivery end of the belt 12are tipped over Vinto recumbent position upon the belt 14 which carries them to the elevating apparatus 26 for engagementby the lifting fin gers thereof so that the sacks lie lengthwise upon these fingers. The sacks when in this position are readily taken up by the elevat- I claim 12, which carries them underneath the de vice 10 which closes the. upper ends thereof 1. A conveying fand elevating apparatus comprising means for carrying filled sacks "underneath a device for closing the upper ends thereof, means for receiving the closed sacks and carrying 'them in a direction at an angleV to the direction in which sacks are carried by said first-men-k tioned Y means,I and means for elevating the closed sacks as they are delivered thereto by said second-mentioned means.
2. A conveying and elevating apparatus ycomprising a belt for carrying filled'sacks underneath Va device for closing the upper ends thereof, an endless belt adjacent the delivery end of saidv firstmentioned belt,V
said belts` being mounted to travel in directions 4at right angles to each other, and an elevating belt having its lower end. positioned adjacent the delivery end of said endless belt.
3. A conveying and eleva-ting apparatus comprising a belt for carryingfilled sacks underneath a device for closing the upper ends thereof, an endless belthaving its deliveryl end of saidV first-mentioned belt,
'11oY .i upper stretch adjacent and lower than the n said belts being mounted to travel in direcy tions at right anglestor each other,v and an elevating belt having its lower end positioned adjacent and lower than the delivery'r end of said endless belt. Y 4. A conveying and elevatingl apparatus ycomprising'a belt for carrying Afilled sacks underneath a device for' closing the upper endsthereof, an endless belt adjacent the delivery end of' said first-mentioned belt, Vsaid belts being mounted to travel in directions'at right angles to eachother, a comb Vmounted' adjacent the delivery end of said endless'b'elt, an Velevating beltj'having its lower end positioned beneath-said comb, and a plurality of lifting members attachedv to 'saidelevating belt, said members consisting of fingers adapted to pass between the teeth o said comb.
5. A conveying and elevatingapparatus comprising belt for carrying filled sacks vunderneath a device for closing'the upper ends thereof, an endless belt adjacent the delivery end of said Vfirst-mentioned belt, saidbelts being mounted totravel-in direct-ions at right angles to each other.I a comb mounted adjacent the delivery end of vsaid endless belt, an elevating belt having its lower end positioned beneath said comb, a plurality oi' elevating members. attached to said elevating belt, said members consisting of fingers adapted to pass between the teeth oi said comb, and au inclinedplate adjacent lthe upper end of said elevating belt, said plate having teeth between which said fingers are adapted topass.
members consisting of fingers adapted to' pass between the teethof said comb. y
7. A conveying and elevating apparatus comprising a belt for carrying filled sacks underneath a device for closing the upper ends thereof, an endless belt mounted to travel at right angles to said first-mentioned belt and having its upper stretch ad'acent and lower'than the delivery end o first-mentioned belt whereby said' closed 'sacks are tipped into recuinbent position uponsaid endless belt, an elevating Abelt for receiving sacks at its lower end from the delivery end of said endless belt, anda traveling belt for receiving sacks from the upper end of said elevating belt.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
