me/vm McKenzz UNETE PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER MCKENZIE, OF TULSA, OKLAHOMA.
TOOL-HANDLE.
Application filed May 25,
. To ZZ "eo/lont t may concern Be it known that l, lVAL'rnn Molnnzin, a citizen otI the United States, residing at 'l sa, in the county oi' Tulsa and State ot ahema, have invented certain new and 'useful lmproroments in Tool-Handles, and l do herebiY declare the 'following to be a full, olea", tet description of the invention, eh as wilt enable others skilled in the art ains to make and use the it app -r i its objects a d vice oi this character,
vvherel a plurL 'v oi wires may be utilized to constrmV andle so to render 1t ot an increase/.l durability over other handles that are used for tools and Which Will'have such resiliency that it will taire up shocks and caused thereto when used in connection with hammers and lilre tools.
Another ob" i" this invention is the f I J 1 i Avision ot s intertwisted in oppolt o wir Nie l 'irections to 'forma strong' body to the iarole and haring the ends of the wires arged in elliptical formation so as to provide an eiiicient hand grip portion and a portion to receive the tool.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a tool handle or" the above stated character. which shall be simple, durable and er'liciait, and which may be manufac- 'gani sold at a comparatively lon7 cost.
l ith tnrse and other objects in vieu' as more apparent as the descripbecome L proceeds, the invention consists in oerf tain novel eatnres of construction, combination, and arrangement oif parts as Will be hereinafter more 'ful'. f described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the follonf'ing description and accompanying drawing. in Which:-
Figure l is a side elevation partly in sec-l tion olf a tool handle constructed in aceordance with my invention.
Q is longitudinal sectional vien' ot the same.
Fig. 3 is a the hand grip.
Fig. et is a similar view of which receives the tool.
Referring in detail to the dravving, the numeral l indicates as an entirety a tool handle which is adapted for use in connec- Y i v. Y l, transv eise sectional tien or the end portion Specification of Letters atent.

tion with various tools such as hammers, hatchets, and axes. The handle l consists oi? a body portion 2, a hand grip portion 3 and a portion i adapted to nt Within a tool, and in this instance, a hammer 5. The handle l is constructed trom a plurality7 of wires (5, constructef trom steel or other material suitable for the purpose. The Wires are inter-twisted in opposite directions to iorm the body and the ends thereole ar arranged in straight lengths 'i' and in elliptical formation. rlhe convolutions of the intertnf'isted lengths or portions ot the Wires which :form the body 2 oi? the handle, decrease in size from each end of the body so as to make the intermediate portion of said body of a comparatively thin thickness, thereby renderino` a neat appearance to the handle and one or great strength.
rho lengths oic Wires which jform the hand grip 3 have shrunk thereon a shell 8 con! structcd from aluminum or other material suitable for the purpose which provides an efficient hand griprlhe other lengths of Wires are inserted in the eye of the animer 5 and a Wedge 9 may be driven thorein for securing them tightly in the eve.
From the foregoing description takenin connection with the accompanying drawing, l' be noted that a handle has been proled which can be readily and cheaply iiactured and one that will have an ased lite over other tool handles of similar nature and used for similar purposes.
llvhile l have shovvn and described the preferred embodiment of my intention, it ,vill be Yunderstood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement oi partsmay be made Without departing form the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.A
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is si handle comprising' an annular series oi ivires intert\visted into a coil formation of smaller diameter intermediate of its length, the Wires at the ends oi the coil being continued straight and parallel vvith each other.
ln testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
VALTER MCKENZIE.
