UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM B.- SLOAN, OF HAMBURG, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-SLAT ADJUSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,166, dated January 2l, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be is known that I, WILLIAM B. SLoAN, of Hamburg, in the county of Fremont and State of Iowa, have invented certain Improvements in Blind-Slat Adjusters, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
Description of the Draw in g.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a blind-frame and slats when closed, embodying` my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same through thek line :o zr, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the upper portion of the blindframe and two of the slats when opened. Fig. it? is a horizontal sect-ion through the line y y,
General Description.
a is the blind-frame, the inner faces of which may beplane, or, preferably, beveled or curved, as seen at b, at their edges, and having the middle portion m (see Fig. 4) a plane surface. The blind-slats c c are pivoted in the usual manner to the inner faces of the blindframe, their journals e o having bearings in sockets made in the inner faces of the blindframe. f is arod provided with eyes, .which engage with staples in each of the slats, by
means of which construction the slats may be simultaneously adjusted, as desired, in the ordinary manner by operating-rod f. cl is a block ot' rubber, of a circular or disk form, attached to one of the slats, c', near its end, and projecting beyond it in its closed position so that on opening the blind-slats, by means of the operating-rod, or otherwise, to any desired position, the rubber disk d will be brought in contact with the plane portion m of the inner face ot' the blind-frame, and there held by the Africtional contact ot' the elastic rubber disk against the inner face of the blind-frame.
In the drawing Ihave shown an annulus or ring, g, encircling one of the gudgeons ot" the slat c', by means of which the blind-slats may be adjusted. This device is old, and I therefore lay no claim to it.
The rubber disk or block cl attached to one end of a blind-Slat is less expensive in its-construction, and maybe more readily applied, than the annulus g, or acircular disk inserted in the socket.
Claims.
I claim as new, and of my inventionl. A rubber block, attached to one of the slats at its end, as shown at cl, and having a frictional bearing against the blind-fram e, substantially as described.
2. The blind-frame a, having the beveled edges b and plane surface m, in combination with the rubber block cl attached to one of the slats, as and for the purpose described.
To the above specification of my improvement in blind-Slat adjusters I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day ofJuly, 1872. TILLIAM 13. SLOAN.
