Description

R. L. PATTON.
Improvement in Weather-Strips.
N0. 132,098. I V Patented D et-8,1872.
tll mm H i tttt tttt t UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REMEMBERANOE L. PATTON, OF HAMBURG, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,098, dated October 8, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REMEMBERANGE L. PATTON, of Hamburg, in the county of Fremont and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weather-Strip; and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a strip of wood or metal having rubber attached to its under side and two or more inclined planes on the upper side, and working against two or more inclined planes placed in a groove in the bottom of the door, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use hung in any of the known and usual ways in the frame. The lower edge of the door has a deep groove running the entire width of the door, and in said groove are secured two or more inclined planes, at. 0 represents a strip of wood or metal of such size as to fit in the groove in the bottom edge of the door, and is provided on its upper side with two or more by a band, D, of rubber or other elastic material, extending the entire length on the under side of the strip, and the ends of the band turned up over the ends of the strip and secured to the edges of the door above the groove, as shown in Fig. 2. 011 the inner side of the door-jamb is a projection, d, and as the door is being closed the inner end of the strip 0 is forced against said projection, which thereby causes the strip to move endwise, and by means of the inclined planes to a and b b the strip is also forced downward, making a perfectly tight joint when the door is fully closed. As the door is being opened the clastic band D draws the strip back in position again.
Having thus fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the grooved door B with inclined planes to a, strip 0 with inclined planes 1) b, and the elastic band D, all constructed and arranged as described, and operated by the projection d, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of July, 1872.
REMEMBERANOE L. PATTON. \Vitnesses:
