The head board will first rise vertically when the mattress frame sections are unfolded. It will then lower-itself as the folding operation takes place and will finally assume the inclined position shown in Fig. 2 when the sections have been completely extended. All parts of the bed are thus rigidly supported and it can also be seen that practically any length and Width mattress may be obtained by merely increasing or decreasing the size of the (lavenport. It can also be seen that as the arm sections have been extended that the mattress or bed entirely open and accessible from either side. l lo obstruction is therefore presented and the general appearance is more that of an ordinary bed than the usual forms of folding sofas and devenports now employed.

After the bed has been extended as shown in Fig. 2 it is possible to release the bedding by extending a foot board such as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 to the dotted line position as shown at l0. This toot board is curried by two slotted arms 41 and also serves the function oil; a mattress or bed clamp when the bed is to be refolded. That is, the foot board may be swung forward in the direction of arrow Z) about a pair of pins 42 extending through the slotted arms. The foot board is then moved dmvnwardly on the pins until the full line position is ussutned as shown in Fig. 3. It will here act a clamp and is positively locked against movement as the lower edge of the slotted arms engages he cross bar of the mattress frame.
