ADJUSTABLE SCHOOL-DESK.

ley, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable School- Desks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved desk of the type commonly employed for school room purposes.

The main object of the invention is to provide a desk of this character, simple in construction, having means whereby thetop of the desk and the seat may be conveniently adjusted as to height.

The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing Figure l of the drawings, which form part of this specification and the appended claim, shows a side elevation of the adjustable school desk, Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.

F or the purpose of adding stability and relieving segment 3 from strain, the motion imparted to it is transmitted by shaft 6 to the opposite side of the desk where a duplicate of the lifting device is installed.

The identical principle with a modification of shape of parts, substantially as shown, is employed in the adjustment of the seat 12. Said seat is provided with racks 13, guided by standards a, a, said racks being engaged by toothed segments 14%, provided with levers 15, as shown, locked in suitable manner.

Having thus explained the nature of the invention, and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same, although without attempting to set forth all of the forms in which it may be made, or all of the forms of its use, the following is claimed A desk of the character described comprising standards, carriers guided thereby and provided with rack teeth, an adjustable desk section attached to said carriers, a rock shaft mounted in said standards, quadrants carried by said rock shaft and meshing with the teeth of said carriers, a lever for actuating said rock shaft, and means on said lever and on one of said standards for locking said lever against movement.
