I INVENTOR. BYHEBilZz'nys A TTORNE Y.
WITNESS: W62 fjmw.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY E. BILLING-S, OF LEAD, SOUTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO CHARLES J. SEARLE, OF LEAD, SOUTH DAKOTA.
BELT-BUCKLE.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HARRY E. BILLINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lead, in the county of Lawrence and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belt-Buckles, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to belt buckles, particularly to that type in which is provided a gripping pin slidable in inclined slots in the sides of the buckle body, and has for its object the provision of a belt buckle of this character provided at the ends of the inclined slots with a hook member engageable within a little loop at the front of the pair of trousers upon which the belt is adapted to be worn, the function of the hook being to prevent the buckle from slipping upwardly beyond the waist line.
An important object is the provision of a hook device ofthis character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, highly eliicient in use, easy to adjust, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
IVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in Which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my buckle upon a belt and in applied position, and
Fig. 2 is a perspectlve view looking at the rear side of the buckle and showing it per 86. Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A. designates a portion of a belt and B designates the buckle which is of the type formed as a plate C having side flanges D provided with inclined slots E within which rides a gripping pin F. The buckle also includes the toothed gripping member G whereby thebuckle is secured upon the belt. In the use of a belt of this character the free end of the belt is slipped between the pin F and plate C and drawn taut, after which a slight movement tending to pull out the free end results in movement of the pin F, to the outermost ends of the Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 29, 1919. Serial No. 341,415.
is old and well known and is illustrated I simply for the purpose of explaining the construction and use of my invention.
In carrying out my invention I provide a hook member formed from a single length of wire bent intermediate its ends to provide a shank portion 10 which terminates in. an upwardly curved bill 11. The end portions 12 of this hook member are arranged in vertical alinement and are journaled through holes 13 in the flanges D adjacent the outer ends of the slots E and the terminals of the end portions 12 are laterally bent, asshown at 14, whereby to prevent disengagement of the hook member from the buckle.
In the use of the buckle it will be seen that the shank 10 and bill 11 may be inserted within the loop H commonly provided at the top of the fly of trousers and the function of this arrangement is to prevent the buckle B from slipping upwardly beyond the waist line or top of the trousers. lVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, connot depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim j In combination with a belt buckle formed with a plate withupper and lower flanges, a hook member formed from a single length of resilient wire .bent intermediate its ends to provide a horizontally extending shank terminating in an upwardly curved bill, the end portions of said hookmember being arranged in verticalaalinement and extending through holes in the upper and lower flanges of the buckle, and the extremities of said end portions being bent laterally, said shank being insertible through a loop provided at the top edge of the fly of trousers.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
