IMPROVEMENT IN HVGIENIC BASINS AND STEAM-BATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,004, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR O. MURDEN, of Hightstown, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hygienic or Genital Basin and Steam-Bath, which are simple in construction and efficient and durable in use; its object being to furnish a device for use in sick rooms and hospitals, by which the lower portions of the human body may be bathed with water, or fomented, as desired; and it consists in the construction of the oval basin being provided with the lip and cover, as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out by the claim 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact, description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing with letters of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal section of a device embodying my invention 5` and Fig. 2 is a top view of the basin, showing the points at which the lip is formed.
A represents the basin, constructed of tin, copper, or brass, as desired, and having the general form of the common wash-basin, and provided with a lip, C, which is formed with the basin, and having its lowest part com mencing at a point near the bottom of the basin, as shown at a, while its upper part is slightly elevated above the basin, as shown. D represents a handle attached in the ordinarymanner for convenience in handling the device. F represents a cover or lid, constructed to t closely over the basin, but leaving the top of the lip G open. G represents a handle on the cover, and E a flange upon the bottom of the basin, supporting the same.
In the siclr room while the person is lying is first placed in the basin, the cover or lid FA fitted on, and the lip C inserted between the thighs as before, when the operation of the steam finding vent only at the lip, :it may be confined to the desired parts of the body.

As a new article of manufacture, the basin A provided with the lip C and cover F, arranged to be used for a water or steam bath, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
