atto/mag UNITED STATES JOHN LUKASZEWSKI. OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FOUNTAIN-BRUSH.
Application led February 18. 1920.
To HN win/m *if muy ramera:
ie it known that l` Joux liiuasmawsni. a Citizen of the Vnited States of meriea, residing at (`liieago. in the eounty of Cook and State of Hlinois, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Fountainllrushes, of whieh the following is a speeifiration.
This invention relates to eertain new and useful improvements in fountain brushes and has for its primaryv objeet the provision of' a bulbous handle portion for a brush that is adapted to ront-ain tht` water or liquid soap that may be delivered to the bristles of the brush when the deviee is held in an upright position with the bristles downwardly directed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fountain brush especially designed for shaving purposes wherein there is provided a bulbous handle portion for containing fluid to be delivered to the brush bristles and with supporting feet inelosing the brush handle and constituting a support to hold the brush in upright position when teniporarily out of use to prevent the flow of fluid to the brush bristles.
'ith the above general objeets in view and others that will bef-orne apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same eonsists in the novel form` combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully deseribed in eonnertion with the aeroinpanying draving.
ln the drawing wherein like reference eharaeters designate eorresponding parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fountain shaving brush constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical eross sectional view of the same, and
Fig. Il is a fragmentary sectional view of a modified l'orm of the invention showing a manually operated screw plug controlling eommunieation between the bulbous handle portion and the brush bristles.
teferring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is provided as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a shaving brush embodying a back 4 having an annular ehannel 5 formed in the outer end thereof for the reception ot the brush bristles 6 which are secured therein in any referred manner. The brush baek 4 is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.

seran No. 359,512. i
an inner rhaniber 7 opening at its inner end at the edge o'l' said bark and being internall)Y threaded for the reception oi' the thilnble H having an inwardly direi-ted eoneshaped llange 5l upon its inner end with an opening lll at the apex thereof as shown in Fig. 2. bulbous handle l1 has the open end thereof frietionall)7 reeeived within the thilnble H for engagement with the adjacent fare of the roue-shaped flange 9.
Supporting legs inelose a bulbous handle 11 and enibod)7 a plurality of wire members 12 bent at their inner ends as at 125 to provide supporting feet as illustrated while the outer ends thereotl are suitably serured as at 11V in the inner fare oi' the brush baek 4 so that the brush niav be set in an upright position when the bulhous handle 11 is filled with fluid to prevent the passage of the fluid to the brush bristles 6. As shown in Fig. 2 the wall 15 elosing the outer end of the chamber 7 and surrounded by the bristles 6 is provided with a plurality of perforations 1G to permit the passage of fluid from the brush handle to the bristles. lVith a deviee of this charaeter. the moisture of the bristles G is easily under control of the user as it is only neeessary to squeeze the bulbous handle 11 and fort-e the fluid eontents thereof through the flange opening 10 and through the openings 1G to the bristles of the brush. thereby eontrolling the amount of moisture in the brush bristles. During the operation of shaving. the brush may be temporarily set aside when out of use upon the supporting feet 13 whieh will hold the brush in the upright position illustrated and prevent the How of Huid contained in the brush handle to the bristles.
A modified form of the invention is shown in Fig. 3 wherein the, brush back 4 has an annular ehannel 5' at its outer end for the reception of the brush bristles G and is provided with an internallyT threaded axial bore 17 for the threaded reception of a thimble 18 extending from one end of the bore to the other end thereof and having a spared parallel inwardly direrted and internally threaded annular flange 19 extending from the outer end thereof and between which flange and thimhle the outer open end oi the bulbous handle 11 is seeured. A screw plug 2() is threaded into the outer end of the threaded flange 19 and provides a closure to prevent the passage of fluid from the bulbous handle 1l to the brush bristles (i. \\'hen it is desired to use the brush disclosed in Fig. il, the hnndle 11 is rotated to remove the thinible 18 from the brush bark 4 so :is to present the screw plug 20 for removal thereof, IAfter which the thimble and hnndle :ire repluced in the brush beck und the device then operates in :i manner :is desrribed in ronneetion with Fig. 2.
"hile there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is to be understood that minor changes muy be mede therein without depui-tinter from the spirit :ind scope of the invention :is claimed.
W'hut is Claimed as new is l. A fountnin brush of the type described eoniprising u buck, bristles secured to the outer end thereof, said back having a paseuge Communicating with Suid bristles, a bulbous handle detachably ronneeted to the inner end of said beek, und :supporting legs for holding the brush in upright position earried by the beek.
2. A fountain brush of the class described cornprisirng1r a back, bristles fixed to the outer end of the back, said back having an inner chamber :ind ii passage extending from the chamber to the bristles, a thimble threaded into said chamber, an inwardly directed cone-shaped flange carried by said thimble, and a bulbous handle carried by Suid thimble.
In testimony whereof I aiiiix my signature.
