Description

l. M. LUND AND H. ANDERSON.
DUSTPAN.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE4, 1920.
Patented Aug". 10, 1920.
INVENTORJ ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. LUND AND HANS ANDERSON, OF BATTLEVIEW, NORTH DAKOTA.
DUSTPAN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
Application filed June 4, 1920. Serial No. 386,480.
HANS ANDERSON, said JOHN M. LUND beinga citizen of the United States and said HANS ANDnnsoN a subject of Norway, residing at Battleview, in the county of Burke, and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dustpans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a dust pan attachment for brooms, such as used in sweeping the floors of dwellings.
The principal object of the invention is to produce a dust pan having a handle formed thereon which will readily engage a broom so that the dust pan may be hung thereon when not in use, and so that when said dust pan is thus hung it may be readily pulled from engagement with the broom when it is desired to use same.
Another object of the invention is to produce a dust pan handle which is formed from a single strand of resilient wire, said strand of wire being bent so asto form a plurality of ja'ws for embracing the handle of a broom.
A. still further object of the invention is to generally improve upon devices of this character by providing a device which will be extremely simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, one which is enicient and reliable in operation, and well adapted for the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and numerous other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and combination and arrangement of parts as will behereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing 2* Figure 1 is a plan view of our invention, and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken therethrough.
In the preferred embodiment of our inportion indicated by the numeral 3. The jaws 4E are formed on the bail B and are substantially parallel to the jaws 2 and are connected by'means of the diagonal arm 5 as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The jaws 1 are then bent over upon themselves so as to form the extension 6 ex tending at right angles from which are the legs 7 which penetrate through the rear edge or the dust pan and extend along the bottom of the dust pan 1 as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing for a distance and are then curved so as to pass through apertures provided in the bottom of the dust pan and to form the hooks 8.
From the above description it will be readily seen that by pulling outwardly upon the finger engaging extension 3 the handle may be easily pulled from engagement with the handle of the broom. From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the device will be more readily understood without a more extended explanation. As numerous changes in form, proportions, and in the minor details of constrnction maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, we do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown and described other than is claimed.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new is l. A dust pan comprising a handle formed from a single strand of resilient wire so as to provide two pairs of parallel jaws connected by diagonal extensions, legs extending at right angles to one pair of said jaws so as to lie along the bottom of the dust pan.
2. A dust pan comprising a handle formed from a single strand of resilient wire so as to provide two pairs of parallel jaws connected by diagonal extensions, legs extending at right angles from one pair of said jaws, so as to lie along the bottom of the dust pan, hooks formed on the ends of said legs so as to penetrate the bottom of said dust pan and hold said handle in place.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN M. LUND.
- HANS ANDERSON.
