Description
IVI. PA-TREMIO.
TOY BATTLE.
APPLICATION FILED omis, 1919.
Patented Aug. 3, 1920.
useful improvements in 'Toy Rattles,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN PATREMIO, OF
TOY BATTLE.
Application led December 16, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, MARTIN PA'rRnMio, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lodi, in the county of Bergen and State of N ew Jersey, have invented certain new and of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
ihis invention relates to toy rattles, and has for its object to provide a rattle with a cylindrical head which is reinforced against being easily crushed.
Another object is to protect the decorations on the ends of the head of the rattle so that they cannot be rubbed or worn off. Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute part of this specification` and then more speciiically defined in the claims at the end of the description.
in the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is an end view of. a rattle made substantially in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a central .section through the head of the rattle.
rihe several parts of the rattle are preferably made of Celluloid. The handle 1 comprises a celluloid tube which is run through the cylindrical head 3 and has a knob 4 at its upper end and a loop 2 inserted in its lower end. v
The head il is reinforced by a lining 5 of pasteboard or other suitable light Inaterial. The ends of the head are formed of disks 6 having inwardly turned peripheral flanges 7 which overlap and are cemented or otherwise secured to the ends of said head 3.
Each of the end disks 6 is reinforced by concentric grooves and ribs or corrugations 9 adjacent its periphery and in the central Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 345,281.
portion thereof there is formed a depression 10 having annular walls 13 extending substantially at right angles thereto. In said depression a decorated disk or panel 12 is fitted and covered by a transparent panel l1 of Celluloid. Said panels have inwardly turned flanges around their edges or peripheries which are cemented or otherwise secured to the walls 18 of the depression. In this way the central portion of the ends of the head of the rattle are greatly strengthened at the point where they are most apt to crack or break in use, and the decorated panels are preserved intact after much wear.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A rattle having a cylindrical head, end disks having peripheral flanges overlapping and secured to the ends of said head, there being depressions in said disks with ledges surrounding them, and panels having inwardly turned peripheral flanges fitted within and secured to said ledges of said depressions for the purpose specified.
2. A. rattle having a cylindrical head with the ends thereof provided with depressions surrounded by annular walls arranged substantially at right angles thereto, and panels having inwardly turned peripheral flanges to fit within said annular walls of the depressions.
3. A rattle having a cylindrical head with the ends thereof provided with depressions surrounded by annular walls, decorated panels to fit in said depressions, and transparent panels arranged over said decorate( panels for -the purpose specified, and secured to said annular walls.
4i. A rattle having a cylindrical head with depressions in its ends and concentric grooves and ribs around said depressions, reinforcing panels fitted in said depressions, and a reinforcing lining for the body portion of the head.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
MARTIN PATREMIO.
